Me too, R6. I'm inured to it. It can't be changed with the large minority in this country of rabid smug-but-uncivilized butthurt right wingers. So I'll just gobble up the excitement like when you see a bad car wreck and you want to check how bad the people were hurt (as a gawker even when you can't do anything to help)
I guess it's exciting? I had a friend who spent half his time in Ireland and said he often got bored there - that America was "exciting". Ha!

R11 drill is a really dangerous influence on young people. They make music videos desecrating the graves and memorials of people they murdered while describing the actual murders in detail. The “Who I Smoke” video is like that, the whole thing is just mocking the victims and families of real murders, I couldn’t believe how disturbing and evil it really was and that Vanessa Carlton wasn’t bothered by that at all.

What’s left to say? It’s all been said before. The problem is the Rethugs. On the orders of the NRA, they refuse to allow sensible gun reform laws to move forward.
The only sensible solution is to vote out the Repukes. Then we can get things done.

We must apply political pressure to ban deadly weapons. Please contact your US & state Congressmen & Senators. Just Google them & go to the Comments section on their websites and let them know how you feel in a few words. It’s not important exactly what you say. It does make a difference to them what their constituents think. This is true of legislators of both parties, no matter what their position on the issue is. Views are changing in response to all the reported shootings. There is power in numbers, so take a minute to add your voice. Don’t give up!

There is no way to get almost 400 million guns away from people, it not happening. Enjoy your 2nd amendment and the blown up brains spewed all over. I think we should show the crime scene images with family consent, some would allow it I think. That still won't help either, but people need to see the carnage and suffer for it.

[quote]Reading to elementary school children WAS NOT a regular part of their work. It was probably suggested by someone close to a drag performer as a one off novel idea that ultimately caused controversy. Through social media it caught on and became a thing. It’s not taking away from your rights to do what you do on stage being a drag performer. Do not push the envelope where it’s not necessary. People are inherently protective of children regardless of who or what the situation. Nobody needs to be provoking the far right or concerned parents into accepting drag performers as a part of the classroom. It’s overreach and will only continue to backfire on those who insist on pushing the idea.

R55 Your response to me makes you sound even more mentally ill. No self awareness. Millions of people have guns. Some of them even have big stockpiles of guns. You have a comparative handful of people whose mental faculties lead them to go out and kill a bunch of people. Oftentimes people they don’t know. Based on what? Sometimes, like you, they just hate whatever those random groups of people represent, in their own minds. You, talking about hating the whole of America, sound like someone who would go out and shoot at a bunch of families (most likely white) at a church picnic. Your shit-stain brain doesn’t conceive that you live in a dynamic country of people who don’t all think the same or behave the same. You sound like a sociopath.

And people wonder why there’s a police shortage. Why are people not rushing to become cops? Fuck this.

There are 400,000,000 guns in this country. 'Banning guns!' is simply a non-starter for logistical reasons, quite aside from everything else. Even were they to be banned, 'phantom' handguns can now be 3D printed at absolute minimal cost, so fireaarms will always be available to those who want them badly enough.

My egg allegory is a real debate- prohibitively expensive materials for bullets, or bullets themselves; more training for law enforcement/health care/social workers; some element other than the clearly failed, "gun control" policies that not only haven't worked, but are so supremely outdated for the current supply of guns on the street as to be laughable.

Average citizens should not be able to obtain firepower equal to what cops have. A rifle to hunt with or a small gun for self defense. That’s it. And even that should be regulated. Criminals will always break the laws but these shooters are mentally ill. There are ways to stop them.

Not just republicans,
[quote] Sanders won the race and kept his promise. He was an occasional ally to the NRA, repeatedly voting against the Brady Bill, which mandated waiting periods and background checks; opposing funding for gun violence research; and voting to protect gun manufacturers and retailers from lawsuits.
[quote] He also honored his commitment, in 1994, to vote for an assault weapons ban. But as the frequency and severity of mass shootings increased over the next two decades, Sanders continued to maintain that the federal government ought to avoid regulating firearms. “In my view, decisions about gun control should be made as close to home as possible — at the state level,” he said after a July 2012 shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

Just to be clear, Thomas Massie represents Kentucky's 4th House district, which is mostly the northeast region around Cincinnati. His district includes a sliver of Louisville, which happens to be our wealthiest and staunch Republican neighborhoods (funny how that turned out). The vast majority of Louisville makes up the 3rd district, which is represented by Democratic freshman Morgan McGarvey. He is the successor to liberal John Yarmuth, who served eight terms in the House supporting progressive legislation.
Other than the millionaires on the edge of the city, no one in Louisville wants to claim Thomas Massie.

R58, this is definitely NOT the fault of his friend, but why did he not call the police or at least mental health services the minute he got that text?
If someone sent me a text like this, I’d do something about it. You cannot get a text like that & not take it seriously. The shooter was obviously not well, but that text was in my opinion, a cry for help.
It used to be that waaay back in the day, people who threatened suicide, only threatened to hurt themselves. Now? It seems like suicidal people are beginning to want to go out via death by cop, which can easily mean, harming others in the process.
Don’t ignore people who make these threats. You might lose a friend forever, but you might also save lives.
I feel awful for the person who got that text. I hope they seek help ASAP as well, because this cannot be easy to deal with.

Maybe we can’t get rid of all the firearms out there, but we can stop adding more. Many of these young shooters purchased their rifles shortly before their killing sprees. Then we can offer buybacks and confiscate guns used in crimes. It will take a long time, but the sooner we start, the better.

Um. because of the shooting Australia set up a national registry and then used that registry to confiscate everyone's guns. I think the UK did the same thing.
This is why a national registry or even state registries are so vehemently opposed in the US. They did the same in Germany and then confiscated all the guns of Jews and maybe others.

It would make absolute sense that anyone who isn't a hunter or law enforcement- someone using a gun as a tool (ostensibly) - who suddenly NEEDS A GUN immediately should have to wait a day or two, get on law enforcements radar, and get at least an interview. That's a logical stopgap.

America has got to proactively give up its semi-automatic and automatic firearms. The ONLY way is for the people to do it and WANT to do it. Don’t wait for tougher gun control laws which will never come; do it for the greater good of every other person in your community.
Of course this absolutely will never happen because America is just a land of selfish, self-righteous, ignorant cunts who refuse to see that they are the problem and no law is going to fix that. So, enjoy the next 263 days and let’s hope we can top 500 mass shootings for this year! I believe in us! USA! USA!

They should absolutely start showing the photos of the victims, especially the kids. The Vietnam War became unpopular once Americans started seeing the dead bodies of Americans on the nightly news. That's when the protests began. Showing a bunch of dead kids with their brains spattered all over the floor by these assault guns would be the best thing to happen in this county so that people wake the fuck up about the reality of this.

If people can't acknowledge that America can't rid of guns as long as the 2nd Amendment exists in its present form, how can they possibly fix the situation? All these peripheral things like the NRA and politicians could be swept away, and the 2A would still block attempts to remove guns. Why do people waste time going after peripheral issues instead of the one thing that matters? If you are serious about gun control, then focus on the 2A; otherwise, you are 100% guaranteed to fail and to be unhappy.
