Good or will my colon regret it?

chicken with the texture of pencil shavings

by Anonymousreply 1June 27, 2016 3:50 AM

Went to one when the first opened in Atlanta near Emory. Got diarrhea. Never went back.

by Anonymousreply 2June 27, 2016 3:51 AM

I like Moes. The salsa is awesome. The chicken quesadilla is pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 4June 27, 2016 4:06 AM

I love Moe's. I wish there was one around here. It may not be good for you, but it is much better for you than Chipotle's giant burritos.

by Anonymousreply 5June 27, 2016 4:12 AM

I love Moes! Their Burrito's are SO good and it's all fresh ingredients. A million times better than that shitty Chipotle.

by Anonymousreply 6June 27, 2016 4:13 AM

Qdoba is higher end if you have any of those around.

Burrito Beach is less authentic but they use I think fresher ingredients.

by Anonymousreply 7June 27, 2016 4:14 AM

Chipotle, Qdoba, Moe’s Southwest Grill — they’re all fast-and-convenient Mexican eateries which are okay, not great, and definitely over-priced.

by Anonymousreply 9June 27, 2016 4:16 AM

I'm also not found of Barberitos. I'd rather pay 20 bucks for a somewhat decent meal.

by Anonymousreply 11June 27, 2016 4:25 AM

I'm going to say No to Moe.

A friend had lunch there last summer, finished her shopping and errands, and headed home. All afternoon she said she kept belching up something that was like rotten eggs and she felt increasingly queasy.

She just kept thinking she'd be fine if she got home and took some Pepto-Bismol but her apartment was 20-25 mins. from the mall where she'd been shopping. So finally, she's home, rushes up to the front door, and while she's fiddling with the keys, has near projectile vomiting, all over the front door and stoop. To make matters, those powerful abdominal contractions set off a chain reaction and she filled her panties.

And, just to complete her humiliation, the neighbors' children were playing outside and witnessed the whole thing, accompanied by much squealing and laughter. For a long time afterward, the brats simulated retching whenever they saw her. I reminded her that, on the bright side, at least the kids didn't know she'd shit her pants!

by Anonymousreply 13June 27, 2016 4:55 AM

The nachos are good. The queso is good. I would be near a bathroom after eating there though. I usually get take out and eat at home.

by Anonymousreply 14June 27, 2016 5:28 AM

Id eat at Taco Bell before Id eat at Moe's again .

by Anonymousreply 15June 27, 2016 5:44 AM

What is it with these Southwestern places like Moe's and Chipotle poisioning people? McDonald's doesn't have very good food either but you don't hear people saying it made them throw up or shit their goddamn panties.

by Anonymousreply 16June 30, 2016 5:57 PM

Have you ever seen the size of the portions at these places? A burrito from Chipotle or Qdoba is almost the size of a football. Massive amounts of "real food" is still bad for you. It would actually be better to get a kid's meal from a fast food place.

by Anonymousreply 17June 30, 2016 6:18 PM

Qdoba is awful. Moe's is okay except staff is required to scream welcome to moes when customer walks i.

by Anonymousreply 18June 30, 2016 6:20 PM

Chipotle had a problem probably because of some combination of : (a) fast-food workers don't wash their hands, even after using the bathroom. And (b) the way they improperly serve the food, often using their hands instead of the provided spoons and tongs, which permits any germs to spread throughout all the food as employees reach from one container into another. Gloves do not provide protection against cross-contamination. Whenever I see either of these things happen, I make a point of telling the manager and reporting it to the corporate office.

I've worked as a food safety and as a medical facilities inspector. The nasty shit I saw ... sigh.

by Anonymousreply 19June 30, 2016 7:02 PM

I'm surprised the rabid Tex-Mex hater hasn't unloaded his avalanche of Tex-Mex criticism yet. He was a real pill on the "I love Mexican food' thread.

by Anonymousreply 20June 30, 2016 7:17 PM

I've had the shits the likes of which you've never seen many times from eating at Moe's. Diarrhea city!!!!

by Anonymousreply 21June 30, 2016 7:50 PM

Why do you keep going back, R21? I ate there twice and never went back.

by Anonymousreply 22June 30, 2016 7:51 PM

I've eaten there occasionally since I was a freshman in college in 2006 - never had any problems with GI issues. Superior quality over Chipotle and cheaper too so it's a win-win for me.

by Anonymousreply 23June 30, 2016 7:53 PM

I wonder if they vary in quality from city to city. There is no way you'd rather eat at my local Moe's than at either Chipotle or Qdoba.

by Anonymousreply 24June 30, 2016 8:00 PM

Only truly trashy and/or poor people would eat at a fast food chain instead of seeking out more authentic food.

by Anonymousreply 26June 30, 2016 10:21 PM

It's ridiculous that so many people would claim to have gastroenteritis from eating at an established restaurant chain (Moe's). Most of these stories sound like bigots telling bigoted stories about "foreign" food. You're like the old people I had to accompany on a drive-along during a college internship in St Louis:

Old person #1: "I love ethnic food."

Old person #2: "Oh me too. My wife love to go out for Italian on Fridays."

by Anonymousreply 27July 1, 2016 5:39 AM

R27, you're being silly. The authentic Mexican restaurants here are great. I only hear complaints about the chains. Why ever would you try to make this about age or "bigotry"?

Oh, I get it. SJWs have to hang their replies on some bete-noir, never reality.

by Anonymousreply 28July 1, 2016 8:05 AM

This thread was referenced in another one and made me wonder if these places are still in business. The local Moe's closed and Chipotle is always deserted.

Freebirds is the best. Chipotle is a lame rip-off of FreeBirds (found in and around the Austin area)

Every Chipotle I ever see in NYC area is full of customers.

by Anonymousreply 31July 11, 2017 4:46 AM

I think Moes varies by store. One near us is wretched while the other which seems to have an owner/manager is very good for what it is.

by Anonymousreply 32July 11, 2017 4:55 AM

R30 is right, Freebirds is the best. Though it originated in College Station.

Moe's is much better than Chipotle. Their queso is terrible, though.

by Anonymousreply 33July 11, 2017 5:06 AM

If Freebirds is so good, then why aren't they all over the country like Chipotle?

by Anonymousreply 34July 11, 2017 5:12 AM

R34, because they're not owned by McDonalds, like Chipotle is.

by Anonymousreply 35July 11, 2017 5:22 AM

What is it with so many of you with your sad cliche of "If you eat at Mexicans, you will get tummy ache and/or diarrhea."

It's such bullshit. Moe's uses the same groceries any other restaurant does. Mexican food doesn't make you any more or less ill than any other food.

Where the hell do you live, North Dakota? Is Eyetalian too spicy for you?

by Anonymousreply 36July 11, 2017 5:29 AM

Freebirds is growing, with franchises in seven states now.

by Anonymousreply 37July 11, 2017 5:29 AM

Is Moe's a sit down restaurant?

by Anonymousreply 38July 11, 2017 5:59 AM

R36 this was explained to you once before but we'll try again.

It's not Mexican food per se that's the problem. In my area there are many restaurants run by Mexicans with delicious, authentic food. The problems are with these chains ("Southwestern" generally, not Mexican, BTW) using substandard ingredients, meats past their prime, and/or issues with food handling procedures.

Get it, now?

by Anonymousreply 39July 11, 2017 6:39 AM

Freebirds opened in Foster City but then closed down. It must not have been very popular. I forget what it is now.

by Anonymousreply 40July 11, 2017 6:41 AM

R39, No I don't get it. You're telling me that a gavacho-owned Mexican chain is dirtier and nastier than a corner Filibertos? Yeah, right.

by Anonymousreply 41July 11, 2017 9:01 AM

Apparently English isn't your first language (or you're just a cretin) so I'm done feeding the troll.

Bye.

by Anonymousreply 42July 19, 2017 12:16 AM

It's a Pieology now, r40. It seems like everything that goes out of business immediately becomes a build-your-own pizza or poke place.

by Anonymousreply 43July 19, 2017 12:44 AM

It's no Antiguo San Angel Inn.

by Anonymousreply 44July 19, 2017 12:48 AM

Why did Freebirds close down in Foster City but Chipotle could survive there?

by Anonymousreply 45July 19, 2017 1:38 AM

Of course, rats falling from the ceiling probably don't help Chipotle's reputation.

I personally would not eat there.

Roger Octopus loves it and eats there a few times a week apparently.

by Anonymousreply 50November 12, 2017 6:47 AM

R36 is right. I stopped eating chain tex-mex food decades ago.

Since I love to cook actual Mexican food, I just do this at home.

Or I go to local restaurants owned by people from Mexico who know how to cook and prepare food and make it right. I only do this when I want to eat something like menudo/pancita, posole, tamales, or something that takes a lot of preparation.

I also cook a lot of spicy Indian, Thai, and British-Asian curries at home since I enjoy food that's hot and spicy.

Eating yogurt or ice cream afterwards helps so your stomach does not get upset and it does not burn the next day.

by Anonymousreply 51November 12, 2017 6:52 AM

After reading R47, R48, & R49, I can say with confidence I'll never go back to Chipotle.

by Anonymousreply 52November 13, 2017 4:38 PM

Is the one on N. Decatur by Clairmont still open? It was a real Ptomaine Parlor.

by Anonymousreply 53November 13, 2017 5:36 PM

Just released study shows that food safety concerns are still keeping customers away from Chipotle.

So happy for the dozen or so taquerias within a mile of my house. I see this dump when I’m traveling for work and it just REEKS of food poisoning and sticky menus. I’ll bet it’s full of shrieking kids and fat assed parents.

by Anonymousreply 55March 27, 2018 7:16 PM

Hey R36, my derision for Moe’s has nothing to do with it being “Mexican” and everything to do with it being a very trashy looking chain restaurants found only in strip malls in Bumfucke. Place looks filthy and the people who eat there look like they subsist on processed food and Marlboro Reds, so I am not trusting the quality of their food or the cleanliness of their restaurants. It’s also no doubt about as “Mexican” as a bag of Doritos washed down with a Mountain Dew.

by Anonymousreply 56March 27, 2018 7:19 PM

The troll from this site DL Roger Octopus loves Moe's southwest grill, or so he claimed.

by Anonymousreply 57March 27, 2018 10:44 PM

I've been to two Moe's. The first, in Beaufort, SC, was awesome. The second, on 6th Ave in Manhattan, was average.

R52, I don't eat at Chipotle simply because of the salt content. I can taste every bit of the 1000+ mg of salt they put in their choices and I always get an awful aftertaste. I haven't been to Chipotle in over a year.

by Anonymousreply 58March 27, 2018 11:16 PM

R58 I'm not surprised they put a ton of salt in their food. I'll also be avoiding ever eating at Chipotle because of this and I find the taste of too much salt to be gross.
