As a popular Good Morning America personality, fans love seeing Michael Strahan report on the latest stories while also getting involved in daytime shenanigans with his fellow co-anchors and celebrities.
But in late October, the former NFL star left viewers concerned when they didn't see him sitting at the iconic news desk alongside Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos. What's more, folks were even more worried after they noticed Michael wasn't on Fox NFL Sunday, another TV gig of his, where he's been an analyst on for almost two decades.
So, what is going on with Michael, and why is he missing from Good Morning America and Fox NFL Sunday? Can viewers expect him to be back on the air soon? We did some research on what happened...
According to an official statement ABC made to People, Michael is missing from Good Morning America for undisclosed reasons involving his family. What's more, the network revealed viewers shouldn't expect to see him on GMA for the rest of the week.
"Michael Strahan will not be with us this week as he is dealing with some personal family matters," an ABC spokesperson told the outlet. "We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and concerns."
Michael hasn't explicitly detailed what caused him to step back from his work on TV, and this also leads people to wonder...
In a similar statement made by Fox Sports commentator Curt Menefee, he told the Los Angeles Times in early November that Michael won't be seen on Fox NFL Sunday due to him "dealing with a personal family matter." This comment came after he also hadn't been seen contributing alongside his fellow contributors, which included Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson, Rob Gronkowski and Terry Bradshaw.
Again, it's unclear as to when he'll be back on-screen. But we're hoping for the best with whatever he's dealing with at the time.

Left the show because no one wanted to hear him speak.

Maybe he's getting the tooth gap fixed for real this time.

What's the big deal? All those main GMA anchors (George, Robin and Michael) maintain weird and inconsistent schedules. Robin's gone for multiple weeks at a time it seems. I'm sure Michael is just fine.

All he had to do is sit there and stare blankly into the camera and be black.

Doesn't ANYONE know ANYTHING about this?

If it's an unplanned absence and he isn't ailing himself, he probably has a sick kid or a dying parent. Not really gossip-friendly topics.

I bought a sport coat from the Michael Strahan Collection and it fit really well and is very well made. Highly recommended.
Maybe he got behind on orders and had to spend a few days in the shop.

^ How much did it set you back? Are you built like a linebacker? Where are they sold?

It was a sick kid, unfortunately.

I just saw this, I was actually going to post a thread. Damn that’s a pretty horrible experience to go through. I don’t have kids, but I think a sick kid has to be the worst.

This poor girl. She will no doubt get the very best treatment, but it's still an awful thing for a nineteen-year-old to have to go through.

I feel bad too. Those brain tumors are no joke. She has youth on her side so hopefully she can come out on top.

Having a sick daughter doesn't make him any less of a schmuck.

I watched Good morning America throughout the 90s up until Joan Lunden and Charlie Gibson signed off. I guess what prompted me to make this comment is I don't understand what they mean by iconic news desk. I don't remember any particular set and it seems like they've changed them so much that no part of it would be iconic. I kind of yearn for those times when I had an encyclopedic knowledge and not only all the network news anchors and reporters and various programs but also all of the local TV station on air staff.

I don’t know anything about him, but I hope his daughter is okay. Seems like a smart, nice girl. Very sad.
David Muir looked quite upset after they covered it on the news tonight.

Michael and his daughter on GMA.
He went from completely private about this, to putting it all out there.
How strange.

R23, his daughter is partnering with Duke University to produce videos recounting her struggle. They chose to make it public to inform others.
