I love this hit single from Maureen McGovern circa 1978.

One of only two Top 40 hits for Mo.

The Morning After is one of my fave songs of the 70s.

I love the pic (left side) in op's post. Kylie Minogue tried to replicate that look circa 2002.

They made it too small for her face, R5. Could have been a happy, more natural-looking medium.

Too small? I don't think so.

Nah. They found the happy medium.

Did she ever say anything about Carol Lynley?
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 11, 2022 2:53 PM |
She really does/did have a spectacular voice.

simply the best, pop music used to be pretty, i miss that

Too saccharine. Too much modulation. I understand it's disco and all, but it's too much.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 11, 2022 3:10 PM |
Didn't she also do the theme from The Towering Inferno?
And she played the singing nun in the movie Airplane (1980).
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 11, 2022 3:13 PM |
R17, you don't understand what "disco" means, apparently. There is nothing disco about Maureen McGovern. To hear how she aged, go listen to the OBC recording of Little Women; she has two knock-out numbers.

Pivot to Poseidon...Were Nonnie and her (soon to be dead) brother supposed to be like Karen and Richard Carpenter? Did the producers tell Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn "write us a song that sounds like those Carpenter kids!" And who is Renee Armand? All these years I thought Carol was lip synching to Maureen, but it was Renee?

R19 the arrangement is disco-ish. Yeah it might have been part of popular music back then but in essence it is what it is

[quote] Too much modulation. I understand it's disco and all, but it's too much.
it might be saccharin but some of us love the various colors and modulations.

R19 you dumb fuck! R17 was referring to the disco-lite song I posted in my Op. Different Worlds.

Maureen is quite the lez, ya know.

She is fucking great!
Trivia: After pivoting to Broadway as a replacement in Nine and Pirates of Penzance, she played the mother in the first workshop of Carrie and did beautiful work.

Loved it. Loved the show Angie. They really fucked it up with the changes in season 2. I dont know WHY they did that. Same with Mork and Mindy.

I thought she sang Torn Between Two Lovers. I get those late 1970s MM singers mixed up...Maureen McGovern, Melissa Manchester, Mary McGregor, Melba Moore, etc.

R20 Yes, Renee Armand’s voice was used twice in Poseidon: when Lynley was practicing Morning After and when she was performing it for the passengers. Renee has had a long folk / soft rock / country career as a singer/songwriter. She co-wrote “One Day in Your Life” for pre “Off the Wall” solo Michael Jackson and was also one of The Coyote Sisters with Cass Elliot’s (!) sister (Leah Kunkel) in the ‘80s. She is one of the thousands of under-the-radar people in the music industry who have made a tidy sum from a lifetime of songwriting and record deals and lives very well in Nashville.
