Lately, of Showtime’s Billions.
What do we think of her?
Are used to think of her as the poor man’s Cameron Diaz. But I really appreciate the nuances of her performance in Billions. I now think she may be even better than Cameron Diaz.

I've barely seen her in anything and don't really see much potential, but I think she's pitch perfect on HBO's The Comeback.
Maybe 'perfectly cast' is the better term, but it's effective that you never know quite how genuine her intentions are with Valerie. There's a scene in the first season where Valerie embarrasses herself as they attend the screening of the episode at her house. As Kudrow runs out of the room it cuts to Akerman's character who has her hands over her mouth and her eyes looking around... we are not sure if she's laughing at Valerie's foolishness, or genuinely embarrassed and concerned for her friend. She plays the dichotomy well.
I think she has that Cameron Diaz-esque hyperactive 'jazzy' personality that seems both charming and fake (with the big wide cheshire cat grin), so her look probably helps too in the role.
It's probably her girlish voice more than her look that make her hard to cast in 'serious' roles. Kristen Bell is only just starting to overcome that more.

I haven't watched any episodes of Billions, but I thought she was terribly miscast in The Watchmen.

I go back and forth between thinking she’s okay and disliking her. She was great in The Comeback but miscast in Watchmen, as others have said.

Axe divorced her and she's off the show.
She didn't really convince me that she was some tough Catholic girl from Inwood with lots of fireman brothers and nurse sisters.
Does anyone else other than me and R7 watch that show? I often feel like I'm on an alternate entertainment track on DL, where 70s sitcoms, soap operas and reality TV shows seem to be the norm.

As you surmised it from my post, R12, I've watched it from the beginning. However, I feel that this most recent season is when the show sort of jumped the shark for me. The whole "Bobby and Chuck make peace with each other" thing really diverted the show in the direction where they're struggling how to develop it. I don't require my entertainment to always have good guys and likeable characters but now it's bad people constantly doing bad things with very little to no introspection, except, maybe, Wendy. Taylor, I guess is supposed to be a relatively decent human being but his/her confrontation with Bobby is just not that compelling, IMO. Like that stupid boxing match (WTF??) Malin Akerman played an interesting character but now she's been replaced by that non-entity girlfriend.

Agree 100% R13-- that was my take on this last season too
Plus Chuck is just such an asshole, I can't imagine how anyone puts up with him, especially Wendy.
Speaking of... my friends and I find it really odd that she's never been given any sort of back story: nothing about her parents, siblings, where she grew up, went to school, how she met Chuck, why she married him, all that.
Odd mostly because every other character has a very well developed back story, even Taylor.
Or did we all just miss it?
Then of course there's the question of who watches Chuck and Wendy's kids when they're out all night and why Wendy makes the two hour drive from Brooklyn to Greenwich every day, but those are minor flaws, lol.
