Fans are screaming for her manager to upgrade them on Twitter. What happened? Wasn’t NYC a big venue for her? The show’s other dates are still not sold out either. Tonight’s show was the first for the U.S. leg.

The venue seats upward of 18K.

Someone posted a clip of her singing "I Love New York" (from the "Confessions On A Dancefloor" album) in Brooklyn tonight. The crowd seemed dead, just standing in front of where she was performing on stage and barely moving. Phones were held up, of course, but nobody seemed to be even swaying.
This tour just seems kind of dull. I have basically watched several shows in their entirety on YouTube and it is very "Madonna lite" compared to past tours. There doesn't seem to be a theme that helps each song hang together in the overall presentation. It's just a collection of different numbers that happen, one after the other, she gets through the show and it's done, no encores, etc.
Offsite Link| by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 14, 2023 5:41 AM |
2 hours late. I do think this has really hurt her reputation. I also think the tour isn’t a big de after Taylor and Beyonce and people blew their money on that. She’s supposed to film this show in NY. She’s also shooting a documentary about it. She didn’t bother putting a tour book together. Weird.

I wonder how many people just got refunds on the delayed shows instead of holding on to the tickets. Look at all of the tours she has to compete with next year. More than a few could free up that money to see a performer they haven’t seen before, or in another scenario that money buy tickets for an act that their kids or even grandkids want to see.
A 12 year old who was a Madonna fan in 1986 turns 50 next year and I don’t think she had a big fanbase of people who turn 40 next year (born in 1984).
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 14, 2023 6:51 AM |
She didn’t go on until 10:51. Here were the empty seats. The venue was warm, all cession stands closed. No water. Going to see Madonna is like attending a concentration camp.

Why is she always 2-3 hours late? What is she doing that makes it too hard for her to start the show on time? Is it nerves? Or is it that she dreads getting out there and performing? I know the dread thing happens sometimes on tour for others. Some days the artist would rather do just about anything else but perform that night. But being hours late? That’s ridiculous.

I went to see her a few years ago in Brooklyn and we waited until 11pm and she still hadn’t gone on yet so we left.

Truly unhinged behavior.

Her previously almost-perfect-pitch instincts have been failing for a long time.
Perhaps her choice to appear as a granny combination of Britney Spears and Jocelyn Wildenstein has ruined her for a lot of former fans.

I saw Rebel Heart too. She didn’t come on til after 10:30. It was the one and only time I’ll ever see her, and at least our hotel was in walking distance, so I didn’t mind that much. But it was in Minneapolis, and there were some really drunk people by the time she got on stage, who were even drunker when the concert ended. On the way to the hotel after, we had one drunk Minnesota chick try to pick a fight with us for some unknown reason, in between propping herself up on every lamppost and stop sign. You don’t know fear until you’ve experienced a drunk Minnesota chick after midnight.

While Madonna couldn’t be bothered to be on-time, Taylor Swift largely started her shows on time. Only a few delays which can be contributed to typical tour delays. But never hours outside of weather issues.
I went to Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour twice. She was late to the first night due to heavy rain. But the final show of the tour she was about 2 maybe 3 hours late. Sucked the energy out of the crowd a bit because this was also on a Sunday so we had shit to do the next day.
Artist, get your shit together and be on time.

I had tix to a Madonna concert in the early 2000s arguably her peak. I paid $300+ for those tix back then.

Went last night to the Barclay show. The place holds almost 20,000 people, and it was pretty full, so if you're saying 3,000 empty seats, you're talking about the seats behind the stage. There were a few open spots here and there. Doors opened 7:30, show at 8:30 (yeah, right). The DJ didn't even go on until 9. She went on at 10:50. To be fair, she looked great, seemed to have naturalized her face, and her figure was in great shape. Her voice started out strong, but got less so as the show went on. A lot of irritated Long Island folks who were fretting about missing their train. Very boozy/high crowd, which was fun until the fat girl in the Marilyn wig went plunging down 3 rows of people landing flat on her face. The show - B - the people watching - A+. Highlight for me was Live to Tell, with Madge flying over the crowd in some contraption while they projected visuals of her friends/fans who died from AIDS.

Whereas Mariah's Christmas tour is getting rave reviews and her voice is sounding better than it has in ages, hitting the notes live.
The difference between the two is Mariah constantly giving credit for her success to her fans and wanting them to enjoy her music. Madonna acts like it's a privilege for her fans to pay $$ just to get to see her, whatever time she deigns to appear.
You didn't get where you are all by yourself, Madge.

| by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 14, 2023 4:56 PM |
Madge also probably has a love/hate relationship with doing shows in the first place.
On the one hand, she's a narcissist so loves having adoring fans screaming her name and being the center of attention. On the other hand, she disdains her lowly fans and can't stand having to perform for them.
It also doesn't help that she's probably extremely jealous of both Taylor Swift and Beyonce who have both done extremely successful tours. You know she's going to try to put out a concert movies just like they did. She probably also can't stand that both Swift and Beyonce are substantially wealthier than she is (granted Beyonce on her own is probably equal, but when you add Jay-Z, Madge is downright poor by comparison).
| by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 14, 2023 4:59 PM |

I have to say, the staging was weird. There was a small stage and several runways that led to even smaller stages in the middle of the arena. I had a hard time keeping track of where she was. They had several large screens that kept changing position, so the larger screens blocked the actual live performers. As for the dancers, they had zero presence. The best parts where when she stood still and sang.

I think Madonna toured almost too much after Drowned World. Every album pretty much had a tour, and all of her shows started to seem very similar to me. When she toured Madame X it felt like Rebel Heart had just happened. So I wouldn't be surprised if even longtime fans have some fatigue in terms of seeing her at this point. It doesn't feel special and there isn't a new album to support, offer anything new to perform. Vogue is a classic but she does it every tour, along with quite a few of the other songs on Celebration. I have a hard time getting excited about this show, especially given the music is on tape and there is no live band.

I've seen her 4 times though not the past several tours. She was 3-4 hrs late each time. (The 4 hrs was in the pouring rain, everyone was demanding refunds. She starts the show with how she loves her fans and those who couldn't wait for her were MFs. Any positivity I still had for her died then.) If the show is 8 pm, go on StubHub or scalpers site at 9 or 10, they are desperate to get rid of seats. I've gotten $500 seats for $30. You can leisurely get to the venue and not have missed a thing.

I might hang in there at 1 hour- certainly not two or three and I would ask for a refund (although I’m aware it probably would never come). I’ve seen Streisand twice- show starts on time and she’s a class act on the stage- quite funny and self deprecating although her voice kind of says it all wink, wind. She knows it’s power. Saw her at a Hillary fund raiser in 2016 in a small venue. On time, funny, in great voice and clearly knew why she was there (help HRC). Class!
Madonna is simply not a nice person- love her music over the years but I would decline to go to her shows even if someone took me.

I think I am done with concerts, including hers, if the venue is beyond a certain size. I saw her at Madame X and was not far from the stage, maybe halfway back in Orchestra at BAM. It wasn't ridiculously expensive if I recall correctly, but it was certainly more worthwhile for being that close to the stage than it was when I saw her at MSG for the Confessions tour. Being in the audience without a great view seems like a waste of time when you know the show will be filmed anyway, especially when sitting close enough to have a great view is a financial ass-raping. But maybe it's just me.

She sounds rough like an old football coach. Also she has never been able to play the guitar, she's out of breath just holding it up. She should be like the old Mexican singers and just sit on a giant throne now ("Madonna la del barrio"). I'd understand.

I wonder how many of the arenas she playing at have to abide by city curfew sound laws? I think she she’s been shut down a few times for going past the time. Lauryn Hill another chronically late performer has had her sound cut off a number of times.

She should take a cue from Mariah Carey, who has been paying people to carry her big ass around the stage for years now.

It's great that of all the many many songs of hers she could have chosen to sing she sings the one with some of the best known lyrics known to man

[quote] Does she still get to be "a New Yorker"? In recent decades hasn't Madge spent years living in LA, London, and Sintra?
No. She’s lived in NYC full time since 2009 except for one year when she was living in Portugal getting fat and looking for dick.
| by Anonymous | reply 124 | December 15, 2023 9:08 PM |
She seemed to be in LA a lot having parties with 20 year olds.

I believe she did spend most of Covid in LA, not NY.
Many rich people are of course bicoastal as is she, but I think overall NY has been more of her home base.

According to some comments on Reddit, tonight's show (Dec 18) has a lot of unsold seats. Given the terrible weather in NYC today, I can't imagine that boding well for sales. Wonder if she will cancel.

She better not cancel. I'm going to tonight's show!
| by Anonymous | reply 131 | December 18, 2023 5:02 PM |
R131, are you going to show up three hours late? You won't miss a thing!
| by Anonymous | reply 132 | December 18, 2023 5:46 PM |
You can get tickets at the door the day of. The show hasn’t been doing well and it’s her own damn fault. I was talked out of going once the 3 hours later shit started again. I’m not putting up with that nonsense.
| by Anonymous | reply 133 | December 18, 2023 5:56 PM |
R130, the hilarious thing is Live Nation will continue fudging the numbers for her. She probably has so many psychopaths around her that they put bright lights in her eyes so that she can’t see empty seats. I hope she writes her memoir after this and changes the course of her career. She’s become pathetic. She can barely walk on stage. At least it’s forced her to bring out the ballads so she can sit. The entire drag judging bit is so she doesn’t have to move. There’s one performance, Die Another Day, where she just waves her hands while the dancers do all the leg work. It’s actually quite funny.
She went off on Andy Cohen last night for talking shit about her on his show. She seemed quite annoyed that he was even there.

Too costly?! BS. If they can afford Beyonce, they can afford Madge. And Beyonce would have been a bigger draw.
| by Anonymous | reply 139 | December 18, 2023 6:06 PM |
Madge should have done Glastonbury, she'd have been guaranteed a crowd. Granted, they'd all have been there to see the previous acts but out of curiosity would have stayed on to watch a relic from the same era as Back to the Future and Running Up That Hill.
| by Anonymous | reply 140 | December 18, 2023 6:12 PM |
Didn't she do Glastonbury back in 2005? Regardless, I don't think she should do it now. She doesn't have any big singles or albums out, why would anyone care? Sure, her back catalogue is classic but the younger generation isn't really listening to it on Spotify, Tidal, etc.
| by Anonymous | reply 141 | December 18, 2023 6:28 PM |

I don't want to drive 2 hrs to DC only to have to turn around and come back home.

As a fan of Madonna's music, I think the fans who actually wait a whole 2 to 3 hours--the ones who know she's been doing this shit for years--are some of the dumbest people out there. Seriously, you think Madonna is so great that you're willing to waste a few hours of your life just standing around and waiting for her? How pathetic is that!?
| by Anonymous | reply 148 | December 19, 2023 1:36 AM |
She’s running some contest now. You have to answer five questions correctly through text message and they’ll bump you up seat wise.

No r146 the blue ones are the available ones being sold by Ticketmaster and the greyed out ones are the ones that are sold. The reddish dots are resale tickets.

The show has no buzz.
I have seen her over a dozen times in 8 countries since Drowned World.
This concert sucks. She’s boring. The set design is cheap. No live band (I miss “Rock God” and his guitar) and she looks like she is trying to hard.
Retire.
| by Anonymous | reply 162 | December 19, 2023 9:24 AM |
R162, I remember thinking that the concert seemed overhyped based on all the videos going around. She looks just plain stupid in a lot of those costumes she wears. And again, I'm not paying that much of money for someone who shows up hours late and can't be bothered to treat their fans well.

This'll give DL a chuckle, I know I started laughing...
After Crazy For You she lights a flip-top lighter and throws it into a pit which sets off this huge pyro effect. Flames just shot up out of the stage.
Anyway, by this point I was drenched in sweat as were those around me. Well when that pit lit up this wall of heat just hit us all and this older lady standing next to me, her knees just buckled and I thought she was going down.
I just couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of it...even compared to the silver jacketed queen entertaining the fat frauen with his Galilean binoculars.

| by Anonymous | reply 174 | December 19, 2023 8:36 PM |
R173, not that poster but I think the big difference between then and now is at least back then Madonna was still popular and releasing hit songs/albums. She has 0 reason to act that way now, when she is just an aging legacy act. But she stil acts like it's 1990.
| by Anonymous | reply 175 | December 19, 2023 9:36 PM |
I would compare her to Norma Desmond, but Norma was only 50 and living 25 years in the past, compared to 65-year-old Madonna stuck 35 years in the past.

The show is totally unremarkable. Her career is in total shambles. The only thing she could do is make a great album and grow the fuck up. I’m sure she’ll instead decide to keep saying children and make music no one wants to hear.
| by Anonymous | reply 192 | December 20, 2023 11:39 PM |
It's actually a really fun show.
The highlights (for me) were Open Your Heart, Erotica, Bad Girl, Vogue, Like A Prayer (a song I was over years ago but she mixed it perfectly) and Rain.
I wish I had went last night and saw Santa as the guest judge. So much more fun than tired old Kevin Aviance!
The poor guy looks traumatized after being made to rub a topless black man (at least he wasn't bare-assed this go around) then falling off his chair onto some chick cowgirl riding him. Then Estere comes down the aisle like some crazy crackhead falling over the place then you can see him stumbling trying to exit the stage.
This is the weird Madonna I have always loved!
Starts at 03:00

"The only thing she could do is make a great album and grow the fuck up"
1) Her last great album was Ray of Light. The countless duds she's released since should tell you there's no more fuel in the tank.
2) Grow the fuck up? This woman has arrested development. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING she has ever done is a cry for attention. She will always be the petulant 1st Grader who can't believe her daddy remarried, thereby shifting his devoted attention from her to others.
If Madonna wasn't so rich from all these antics, she'd be the boozy broad living in a trailer in Hicksville. Letting the local youths lose their virginity to her for shots or dollars.
