Madonna denounced Sinead O'Connor ?

FFS Janbot give it a rest.

Sinead on SNL

Wasn't she supposed to rip up another photo?

It's weird how no one claps. You'd think out of habit some would.

"Madonna — who had a history of verbal sparring with O'Connor — was critical of her at the time, saying of O'Connor, [bold]"I think there's a better way to present her ideas rather than ripping up an image that means a lot to other people."[/bold]

Madonna made the comment in an interview with the Irish Times.

I would hardly call that comment a denunciation.

And really, how could anyone expect these two to see eye-to-eye on anything?

by Anonymousreply 4July 29, 2023 3:17 AM

Who cares what fish face thinks

by Anonymousreply 5July 29, 2023 3:18 AM

As if her opinion holds any value or sway, or matters in any way.

by Anonymousreply 6July 29, 2023 3:21 AM

Didn't that whore once dance nearly-nude in front of a Black Jesus, and also in front of burning crosses?

Yeah, let's hear what SHE thinks about Catholic dignity.

by Anonymousreply 7July 29, 2023 3:22 AM

On one hand I'd like to think she was speaking from experience given all the grief she got for her antics and church iconography but honestly it comes across as her just being cunty.

Madonna was jealous because Sinead got attention for doing something genuinely bold. This is actually a great example of things that have caused me to reevaluate my love for Madonna. She treated Sinead like shit. Sinead said that she loved Madonna but then Madonna started bashing her in a hypocritical way.

by Anonymousreply 9July 29, 2023 3:31 AM

R9 Bold? You want bold? I'll show you my tits again? How about beaver? How about a "book" of staged sex photos? I lick a Black guy's asshole! BOLD!"

by Anonymousreply 10July 29, 2023 3:33 AM

R7 - “nearly nude” is hyperbolic.

Miley Cyrus was shitty to Sinead after she tried to caution her, maternally, about letting the music execs exploit her.

It's not my favorite song, but the video for Like a Prayer is a good one and made with Madonna's input. She got raked over the coals for it, wrongly, in my opinion.

It's not the same as what Sinead did. That was an activist protest.

It's apples and oranges.

by Anonymousreply 13July 29, 2023 3:39 AM

In 1992 Madonna said in an interview with the Irish Times: "I think there's a better way to present her ideas rather than ripping up an image that means a lot to other people."

by Anonymousreply 14July 29, 2023 3:43 AM

R13 No, you're right. One was a surprise political demonstration on live TV, for free, and at great financial and personal risk.

The other was done for money and awards consideration.

by Anonymousreply 15July 29, 2023 3:52 AM

Did Madonna lose her contract with Pepsi over that video?

by Anonymousreply 16July 29, 2023 4:05 AM

Yes R16 because of the Like A Prayer video in 1989.

It provided massive amounts of publicity for her at the time and increased her star power exponentially.

Yeah, she caught a lot of hell for that. I was watching that night, and I thought, good for her.

Sindead is becoming one of my favorite artist. I’m discovering her complete body of work since her passing. This woman was the real deal. Real lyrics, phenomenal voice, and not like everything else you hear. She is becoming my favorite female artist after Queen Bey.

I loved Sinead as a teen but moved on. Still listen to The Lion & the Cobra around Spring Equinox or St Pat’s day. Chilling and spiritual.

The difficult brown era was awkward but part of her mental illness included being tmi and embarrassing at times.

I love her and if there is peace after death I hope she has it.

Madonna can choke on a chicken bone.

Madonna went into print to slag off Sinead for not being sexy. And now she has the nerve to think she’s a figurehead of anti-misogyny. She never had the slightest interest in female solidarity.

by Anonymousreply 25July 30, 2023 6:28 PM

Sinead had genuine convictions. That was never going to sit well with Madonna, who only had convictions if they could be monetised.
