Zoe (Zoe Saldana) as a very poor, 30 year old, single but very strong minded Mexican woman working as a waitress in small town of Mexico . She lives with her old mother who is on her death bed.
Just before her death her mother tells Zoe that she is actually her grandmother and her actual mother Jennifer had given birth to Zoe when Jennifer was only 13 years old . Just after Zoe's birth, Jennifer fled to USA illegally to fulfill her American dreams.
After her grandmother death, Zoe too decided to move to USA to find her mother. She had to take help of a human trafficker with heart of gold (Oliver Martinez)who helps hard working Mexicans to cross border in exchange of money . Since Zoe can't pay enough money to Oliver for his help so she decided to pay with her body , But after couple of rounds of sex, Oliver starts developing feelings for Zoe . And decides to help Zoe without taking any money from her.
When they were crossing border, Oliver unfortunately get shot dead by racist border patrol agents but Zoe somehow manage to escape and reach Houston .
After some help from old letters(which her mother had written to her grandmother) Zoe managed to find her mother. Her mother is Jennifer Lopez who is now a mistress (or a kept) of a homophobic , racist,anti -illegal immigrant and anti abortion Politician /Businessman named Kevin (Kevin Spacey)While Kevin is very homophobic who opposes gay marriage but regularly indulge in threesome with his bi-sexual wife Nicole (Nicole Kidman) and Jennifer .
Kevin and Nicole have a son Zac(Zac Effron)
Zac is nothing like his father. he is cool ,hipster, very broad minded and a closet liberal . He secretly loath his father but respect his compassionate uncle Josh (Josh Lucas as Kevin spacey 's younger brother). Josh has a dirty secret .Even though still unmarried Josh is considered as a ladies man but in reality he is a closet homosexual .
Even after their meeting Jennifer refused to accept Zoe as her daughter but agree to recommend Zoe for a job to work as a maid in Josh 's mansion .In Josh mansion Zac first saw Zoe and fell madly in love with her. Zoe initially reject his advances because she deeply recents whole Kevin 's clan. However after some time she also developed feeling for young Zac (who is actually much younger than her)
Mother -daughter remain estranged however they slowly become closer when Zoe helped her mother recover from her third abortion . Yes even though Kevin is anti-abortion politician ,he forced Jennifer to undergo abortion multiple times in past 12 years .
After her 3rd abortion Jennifer realized that she would never able to become mother again . She and Zoe become closer . Kevin 's wife Nicole was initially unaware of all these abortions stories however she overheard Zoe/ Jennifer conversation . She started deeply hating Kevin and starts having deep sympathy and affection for Jennifer. Nicole and Jennifer are becoming more and more closer and they start having sex even in absence of Kevin .
Meanwhile Zac/Zoe romance is also in full bloom and love is in air everywhere .
However close to end a horrible tragedy happened . Kevin accidentally caught Josh having sex with a rent boi (Darren Criss) in Josh's bedroom. In a fit of rage he shoots his own brother and the trick . Both Josh and Darren killed in the shooting .
Kevin tried cover up this story but he is unaware that that there were secret surveillance camera in the Josh bedroom . Zac is aware of that . He quietly leaked those tapes (in which Kevin was shooting Josh and Darren) through his journalist buddy Colton (Colton Haynes in a 1 min role).
Kevin is now being prosecuted for murder of first degree. Nicole files for divorce and move to Oregon .She took her lover Jennifer along with her.
Zac and Zoe also moved to NewYork . Zac is now full time professional painter . He ask Zoe to marry him but Zoe refuses .Because Zoe wants her own identity and doesn't want to be identified as "Zoe spacey" .
In the end Zoe becomes as immigrant right activist
