I saw this in the movie theater as a very young, very gay ten year old with my uncle who was an actor in Hollywood at the time.

God, I loved LOVED LOVED this movie...we saw it opening weekend, and the audience was HOWLING during it. We nearly died when Justine and her "band" did a cover version of "Mystery Dance" and it looked like she was about to swallow the microphone.

After season 4, Justin had been accepted into an Ivy League college and planned to leave the show to further her education.
She thought Gary David Goldberg would be okay with it.
He wasn't and neither was the network.
They held her to her contract, and she was really pissed. Her attitude showed on the set.

Justine Bateman was a good student in high school (she was tutored on the set and, when she wasn’t filming, attended Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills), but never went to college because of her Family Ties commitment.
"I didn’t understand that I couldn’t just leave and become sort of a semi-regular. I had to be sat down by the line producer, Carol Himes, in my dressing room and told, ‘I hear you’re thinking about going to college.’ And I said, ‘Thinking about it? Half the writing staff wrote me the recommendations for colleges! And she goes, ‘Well, honey, you can’t go. You’re under contract to Paramount Studios.’ I was like, ‘Can’t I just do some of the episodes now?’"

She was so devastated that NBC held her to her contract, she shelved the idea of college after the show ended thinking "what's the point"

IIRC after Julia hit with PW, one of the networks ran the movie, billing it as " 'Satisfaction' with Julia Roberts" or something like that. Completely cutting Justine out of the promo.

This was her star vehicle that flopped. She wasn't ready to star in a movie, she should've worked her way up taking quality supporting roles. But she probably didn't have her brother's talent anyway.
