Is Sam Francisco still a Gary city?

Growing up in the 80s and 90s I remember San Francisco having a reputation as being a gay Mecca. Is that at all accurate today? Is there anything interesting about modern San Francisco?

by Anonymousreply 1March 26, 2023 1:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 2March 26, 2023 1:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 3March 26, 2023 1:58 AM

San Francisco Peak Fun, anything goes, freedom, a City like no other 1968-1979. Just a short period of time. Now…. NOT so much.

by Anonymousreply 6March 26, 2023 2:01 AM

Not anymore. A mere fog of it’s former fabulous self. The gays are gone. Homeless, breeders and incels stayed.

by Anonymousreply 8March 26, 2023 2:06 AM

Gary Indiana let me say it once again

by Anonymousreply 9March 26, 2023 2:10 AM

It's more like New Delhi. Shitting in the street is commonplace. It was once a beautiful city.

Sam Francisco, open your golden gate

by Anonymousreply 12March 26, 2023 2:18 AM

Does Sam Francisco identify as black?

If he does, he's now eligible for 5 million dollars, full debt repayment AND a $1.00 house in San Francisco!

by Anonymousreply 13March 26, 2023 2:40 AM

I’m genuinely embarrassed by how much I laughed at R9 and R11.

by Anonymousreply 14March 26, 2023 2:53 AM

So is Gary Indiana more happening now?

by Anonymousreply 15March 26, 2023 3:50 AM

R7- You could buy HARDCORE porn in Times Square in NYC by 1970.

I think it's more of an Noah or Ethan city now.

The gay scene never really recovered from the AIDS years.

by Anonymousreply 19March 26, 2023 6:24 AM

I know some Gary’s in Seattle

by Anonymousreply 20March 26, 2023 6:28 AM

According to John Waters in the short film at R7, there used to be a sex club in SF called The Hungry Hole that had gloryholes you stuck your entire ass through. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 21March 26, 2023 6:37 AM

R10 I've lived in SF for the last 4 years, and the only shit I've seen is dog shit. I've also visited New Delhi, and SF is nothing like New Delhi.

San Francisco, I love that whore of a city... :-)

by Anonymousreply 23March 26, 2023 7:03 AM

Sam and Gary are good friends. Both have waterfront views. Completely different vibes.

So sad that Blow Buddies was a pandemic casually. Glad I checked it out one night in1998 during a vacation there

Same for Nob Hill Cinema.

And the Watergarden baths in San Jose closed in the pandemic, for good. I recall it had a nice pool during my 1998 visit.

No but very they/them. Gay club dancing has been replaced with cocktails, a fiery discussion about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and going home alone but fully satisfied.
