R27 makes a great point, OP. If you're looking for Texas music to listen to while visiting Texas, there is much more talent than space. However, without knowing your particular tastes, here are some album recommendations, which generally cover the blues, rock, and folk genres (+ Willie, of course) to build your playlist from:
Steve Earle – The Revolution Starts…Now
The Fabulous Thunderbirds – Walk That Walk, Talk That Talk
Lightnin’ Hopkins – Lightnin’!
Ray Wylie Hubbard – Everything he does and then some (my favorite version of his song “Portales” is on the album “Texans Live from Mountain Stage” and download whatever you can find of his live performances/interviews because he is a wonderful storyteller and funny as hell)
Freddie King – Texas Cannonball
Kris Kristofferson – Kristofferson (rereleased as Me and Bobby McGee)
Lyle Lovett -- Lyle Lovett and His Large Band
Lyle Lovett – Pontiac
Delbert McClinton – Room to Breathe
Willie Nelson – Red Headed Stranger
Townes Van Zandt – A Far Cry from Dead
Stevie Ray Vaughan – Soul to Soul
Stevie Ray Vaughan – The Sky is Crying
The Vaughan Brothers – Family Style
T-Bone Walker – Stormy Monday Blues
The Edgar Winter Group – They Only Come Out at Night
Johnny Winter – Scorchin’ Blues
ZZ Top – Tres Hombres

Don't leave out Kinky Friedman, whose hilarious touring outfit was Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys. His Best-of record, "The Last of the Jewish Cowboys" represents his ouevre in one handy package . . .
"They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore" is an early gem . There's also "Lasso From El Paso," Under the Double Ego," "Old Testaments and New Revelations," and a slew of others.
