I'm eating See's candy right now.

Only if you're eating my weakness, a good bridge mix.

The "John List" troll in 3..2..1

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2021 10:24 PM

I had a a vanilla cream and molasses chip just now.

by Anonymousreply 4December 11, 2021 10:27 PM

Never chew the nuts! Just lick them and caress them gently.

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2021 10:29 PM

Yes but that's the 2nd layer, r5.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2021 10:29 PM

I love their pecan rolls and Scotch kisses.

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2021 10:30 PM

Whats your favorite, OP ? I like the one with coffee.

by Anonymousreply 9December 11, 2021 10:32 PM

The 3 lb box of assorted chocolates is sold out! I will have to upgrade to the 5 lb box! Should I just get a one-time order, or recurring every 2 months like they recommend?

by Anonymousreply 10December 11, 2021 10:33 PM

Scotchmallows? Those are my favorites.

by Anonymousreply 11December 11, 2021 10:33 PM

See's is tres middle class, OP.

by Anonymousreply 12December 11, 2021 10:33 PM

Hey OP -- Get a recurring order of the 5 lb box--at least once a month!

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2021 10:35 PM

[quote] See's is tres middle class, OP.

I don't care. I'm middle class.

by Anonymousreply 15December 11, 2021 10:36 PM

[Quote] Hey OP -- Get a recurring order of the 5 lb box--at least once a month!

I can only dream.

by Anonymousreply 16December 11, 2021 10:40 PM

There is nothing wrong with being middle class. It beats the hell out of being poor!

by Anonymousreply 18December 11, 2021 10:41 PM

[Quote] Whats your favorite, OP ?

It changes. Right now it is Vanilla cream or Blueberry cream.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2021 10:41 PM

R17, if you're talking about that rum raisin (milk chocolate), that would be something I don't like. Otherwise, I love See's candies. A friend of mine loves that rum raisin (rectangular loaf shape, enrobed).

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2021 10:42 PM

Delta Work is at r17! Hi, dear!

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2021 10:45 PM

How many pieces of See's are medically appropriate to eat in one day? Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2021 10:59 PM

Off-hand, I'd say 6 to 8 pieces, R22.

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2021 11:03 PM

I love the Polar Bear Paws and Cashew Brittle.

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2021 11:05 PM

Love their dark chocolate raspberry creams.

by Anonymousreply 25December 11, 2021 11:06 PM

That rum raisin one is the one I have to spit out if I accidentally get it. Sooo nasty. The best are the chocolate buttercream and the bordeaux.

by Anonymousreply 26December 11, 2021 11:06 PM

See's is fine but its old-line "clinical, laboratory" style could use a little updating.

I order it for gifts but it ain't no Bissingers.

by Anonymousreply 28December 12, 2021 12:32 AM

My favorite are their Almond Turtles- they call them Almond Buds. I also like the seasonal Peanut Turtles (roasted peanuts and caramel covered in milk chocolate) their jelly beans are excellent quality but they are not available right now.

by Anonymousreply 29December 12, 2021 12:32 AM

Never heard of Bissinger's. Ina Garten claimed Fran's Chocolates were the best. I ordered some. Very pricey and nothing special. Are Leonidas Belgian chocolates no longer available in the US?

by Anonymousreply 30December 12, 2021 12:36 AM

Careful or you’ll start typing fat

by Anonymousreply 31December 12, 2021 12:38 AM

You can get Leonidas in NY and Chicago that I know of - I've ordered from the NY location.

by Anonymousreply 32December 12, 2021 12:43 AM

Bissinger's was bought out by the Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate family. Hopefully the quality will not go down - Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate uses palm oil in their products 🤮

by Anonymousreply 33December 12, 2021 12:45 AM

See's is damn fine chocolate.

by Anonymousreply 34December 12, 2021 12:47 AM

Not very, OP, because I just ordered pralines from Southern Candymakers in New Orleans.

by Anonymousreply 35December 12, 2021 12:49 AM

Our family dachshund ate a 3 lb box once and survived without even getting sick. Hearty German genes!

by Anonymousreply 37December 12, 2021 12:51 AM

I wish I could get a box of Teuscher's Champagne Truffles for Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 38December 12, 2021 2:06 AM

My mom loved See's all her life and we went there many times. She got a discount through her job, I think it was 30% off on pre-packed items. Plus they give everyone a free piece of candy just for walking in. It was a good deal for us. This was around 10 years ago, and I think we were paying less than $10 per pound back then. Now it's $25 to $28 according to their web site.

See's products are rich, concentrated candies and a little goes a long way. My two favorites were the Key Lime Truffle and the dark chocolate almond clusters.

No. I find See’s chocolate less than middling.

by Anonymousreply 40December 12, 2021 3:13 AM

I'm a eldergay who grew up in SoCal, so I have fond memories of See's. It is a nice bridge between mediocre grocery store brand like Whitman's and luxury chocolates like Neuhaus and Teuscher. See's uses Guittard chocolate, which is decent.

I agree with R38 about Teuscher's Champagne truffles. They are perfect. But I still like See's.

by Anonymousreply 41December 12, 2021 6:34 AM

Keep it up and even Superman couldn't see through you.

by Anonymousreply 42December 12, 2021 6:36 AM

An auntie was fired from See's after stealing lbs of chocolate . She isn't a fat whore either.

by Anonymousreply 43December 12, 2021 6:41 AM

Whitman's and Russell Stover are both terrible now, even if they were good years ago. Just crap. And Russell Stover is owned by right-wing wackos. See's is a big step up in quality from those two.

by Anonymousreply 44December 12, 2021 7:24 AM

So tell me, is the peanut brittle still buttery delicious?

If so, enjoy it now, while your dental work permits.

by Anonymousreply 45December 12, 2021 7:53 AM

See’s chocolates were featured in the classic I Love Lucy episode where she and Ethel got a job on a chocolate-dipping assembly line.

by Anonymousreply 46December 12, 2021 7:55 AM

In NYC we have Jacque Torres chocolates. They are MUCH more expensive than Sees. My favorite thing that they sell is the Nut Milk Chocolate Bark- a pound of that is now up at $37.00 per pound. A few years ago it was only $26 a pound. It is EXCELLENT.

Not jealous, OP. I loaded up on Sees gifts today and also bought some treats for myself. In a few minutes I shall enjoy a Nuts & Chew bar.

Sadly, they gave me some molasses thing as a sample. Not my favorite.

Last summer I got inspired watching QVC and bought a box of 12 6-packs of Harry and David truffles for small gifts, scheduled to be delivered in December. I forgot all about it until the first delivery arrived. There are 11 little boxes left and I did not give any away. Shall I gobble them all?

by Anonymousreply 50December 14, 2021 1:27 AM

Never waste good chocolate on gifts to others. You can go and buy them something from Walgreens but keep the good stuff for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 51December 14, 2021 1:53 AM

Dear OP, you're going to be jealouser - I work down the street from the See's Candy factory in South San Francisco. I think there are only two factories and the other one is somewhere in LA. Strangely, employees of my company, which does research on and makes drugs for oncology patients, get a 15% discount on See's. I'm not sure if See's Candies factory workers get a 15% discount on our cancer drugs. Doubt it. I'll be back there soon to buy boxes for my staff for xmas. This year I will NOT buy an "extra box" for "associated staff, just in case" while I'm there. For the past two (COVID) years I ended up eating nothing but See's for Christmas Eve and Day. The factory (aka the crack house) shop gives free samples, so I only make just the one run. Usually.

As a footnote, I learned from a See's thread here from a few years ago that the quality has gone down after See's was bought by Berkshire Hathaway. My old, fat taste buds don't care.

by Anonymousreply 52December 14, 2021 2:48 AM

My goodness they are expensive. I'm not spending $65 on a 2 lb. box that I could eat in one sitting. And no, I'm not fat.

I used to love Sanders Candy from MI, but they eliminated the chocolate/peanut butter flavor that I loved.

No one has that flavor any more.

by Anonymousreply 55December 14, 2021 2:58 AM

The South San Francisco location used to give unlimited samples.

by Anonymousreply 56December 14, 2021 3:03 AM

R52- Berkshire Hathaway bought Sees Chocolates way back in 1972.

by Anonymousreply 57December 14, 2021 3:06 AM

This thread inspired me to order Teuscher's Champagne Truffles from Chicago. Costs an absolute fortune. Here's hoping they arrive in Texas and are still edible.

by Anonymousreply 58December 14, 2021 3:27 AM

Mine arrive tomorrow Christmas Pig OP!!! Sees and La Maison Du Chocolate are my Christmas go-to's.

My favorites are Dark Chocolate Bordeaux, the caramels that taste like brown sugar (SO GOOD) Dark Chocolate Scotchmallows, and the Dark Chocolate California Brittle..

Every Christmas I try a new Chocolatier that I have not tried- This year it is "Kate Weiser Chocolates" from Texas- We will see how those are! Oh crap, I also order Sea Salt Caramels from Knip-shits from Connecticut, or something like that. Knildt-shit?
