How many people do you think post here regularly on any given day?

Reddit says we are down to 30.

by Anonymousreply 76October 8, 2023 11:56 PM

Oooh, Reddit sez!!!

You mean the loon at the "not affiliated with Datalounge" Datalounge subreddit? How many posters are over there, two?

by Anonymousreply 1October 3, 2023 6:22 PM

How would Reddit know?

My guess is around 100. We've had posts with hundreds of likes, but most don't garner anywhere near that many. It's definitely more quiet than in years past; I remember threads regularly exceeded the 600 reply threshold and were continued but now that's uncommon.

by Anonymousreply 2October 3, 2023 6:23 PM

[quote] I remember threads regularly exceeded the 600 reply threshold and were continued but now that's uncommon.

Shut your filthy mouth.

by Anonymousreply 3October 3, 2023 6:24 PM

Well, OP and Muriel are going to have to start having even more multiple personalities come out of their stressed out brains.

BTW, I never received my 2 XL t-shirts last Christmas (Kill it, Kill it with Fire& DIE in a Grease Fire-in tropical blue.

Thank You!!

by Anonymousreply 4October 3, 2023 7:10 PM

People might reply to this post, numbering themselves.

by Anonymousreply 5October 3, 2023 7:10 PM

I'm sure Mediapolis must have some idea, not sure they would let us know.

by Anonymousreply 6October 3, 2023 7:19 PM

Not too many. Especially when the site has problems/errors and rejects your postings for no reason whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 7October 3, 2023 7:28 PM

Reddit is a poor predictor of size. That is unless there’s evidence to the contrary.

by Anonymousreply 10October 3, 2023 7:49 PM

If this place used to be a lot busier, where did everyone go?

by Anonymousreply 11October 3, 2023 9:05 PM

Always prime time lately has scared off 80% of the posters with 50% of them being trolls foreign and domestic.

by Anonymousreply 12October 3, 2023 9:11 PM

Yet 5 of them are white supremacists

by Anonymousreply 13October 3, 2023 9:27 PM

Twelve users (two are lesbians).

by Anonymousreply 14October 3, 2023 9:32 PM

Sometimes I'm on in the evening and there's not a single post for ten minutes. It can get really dead in here.

by Anonymousreply 15October 4, 2023 1:25 AM

. With the Trump trials and the election coming up that guarantees DL will soldier on for at least another 26 months. Of course there's always that Markle woman to pick up the hate slack.

by Anonymousreply 16October 4, 2023 2:08 AM

I'm authenticated and I never post. I think I'm too thin-skinned. The comments are routinely nasty and personal attacks over the least banal of comments left causes suicidal ideation in me. I've been on DL since 1998 and I read the site, but never contribute because it just feels the opposite of fun. And, as I know I will be flamed like a witch, I am not signing my authenticated name, again.

by Anonymousreply 18October 4, 2023 2:36 AM

Russher, if you are listening and this website is important enough to your trolling operations, you can afford the 2 dollar monthly rent to squat here.

by Anonymousreply 19October 4, 2023 2:37 AM

I did the subscription thing, but I'm not on here every DAY.

by Anonymousreply 20October 4, 2023 3:20 AM

That's a pity, R18. Perhaps develop a thicker skin?

by Anonymousreply 21October 4, 2023 3:38 AM

As I'm an elder gay I've got time. I post each day on a few threads. R15, time zones change things, let's say a quarter of the world is asleep when you're on line. Also not all threads trill everybody but DLrs still read. I think we might be surprised how many are regular posters.

by Anonymousreply 22October 4, 2023 3:47 AM

I check every day for about an hour, usually just before bedtime. I think during election years it gets busier - and the troll traffic also skyrockets then as well.

by Anonymousreply 23October 4, 2023 7:37 AM

I'm white supremacist number 3🙄

by Anonymousreply 24October 4, 2023 8:58 AM

Greg has driven many posters away.

by Anonymousreply 25October 4, 2023 9:10 AM

R25, you sound like a Mean Girl.

by Anonymousreply 26October 4, 2023 9:30 AM

I'm done when my subscription runs out later this month. I wouldn't even pay 1.99 for this shit. There's barely anything new, it's filled with psychos and vicious old people, and then there's R25's very, very valid point (which reflects my second point but still gets all the attention it so wants and, as dog shit in our path, deserves as a psycho vicious old person in its own indescribable rank.).

by Anonymousreply 27October 4, 2023 1:00 PM

You just got flamed, bitch R18! Get some more suicidal ideation.

by Anonymousreply 28October 4, 2023 1:13 PM

We have way more lurkers than posters, but I would assume that we have a solid core group of posters. Won't even begin to guess how many. But I do believe Primetime complicates things.

by Anonymousreply 30October 4, 2023 1:38 PM

It sure doesn't seem to have improved the place. But maybe off-Primetime is actually that much worse. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 31October 4, 2023 1:58 PM

I have 50 posters blocked but the overwhelming majority are probably sock puppets.

by Anonymousreply 32October 4, 2023 1:59 PM

I've been coming here over 20 years and I've never seen DL in such shambles; no search function, rampant trolls, barely any new threads and 90% are idiotic retreads. Zero moderation for months.

It's over IMO.

by Anonymousreply 33October 4, 2023 2:01 PM

OP? Why are you obsessed with numbers?

by Anonymousreply 35October 4, 2023 2:24 PM

R18, I'm sorry to hear that. Remember there are some completely psycho bitches here and their opinions aren't worth squat.

by Anonymousreply 36October 4, 2023 2:34 PM

Well, regular posters might be few in number but most of them are ignorant nasty bitches, so there's that.

by Anonymousreply 37October 4, 2023 2:57 PM

I’ve been here about 7 years. I check in almost every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times. I comment pretty often and I frequently get a few likes. I don’t often start new threads but I do occasionally. I still find interesting things here that I I don’t see anywhere else. I learned a long time ago not to worry about the mean responses. I do try to be careful about my spelling, punctuation, grammar, & proofreading, though!

by Anonymousreply 38October 4, 2023 3:10 PM

Are we still on 100% prime time?

by Anonymousreply 39October 4, 2023 3:13 PM

The DL is dying a slow death.

by Anonymousreply 40October 4, 2023 3:20 PM

Sometimes I will put someone on Ignore for a moment to see their posting history and I’m amazed when I see so many replies by them that I remember seeing on the threads but had no idea at the time they were all by the same person. It leads me to believe that the bulk of replies are by a relatively few people, but there may be a lot more people who are lurkers or are people who only write a few replies. Everyone once in a while, a lunatic on DL will express that they have like over a hundred people, or whatever the limit is, on Ignore, so that would indicate that there’s some amount of users greater than that.

by Anonymousreply 41October 4, 2023 4:12 PM

“Everybody once in a while” = “Every once in a while”

by Anonymousreply 42October 4, 2023 4:20 PM

R41/R42 is illiterate twat Teacake sockpuppet

by Anonymousreply 43October 4, 2023 5:53 PM

R43, I like Teacake, I wish you'd stop picking on him.

by Anonymousreply 45October 4, 2023 10:56 PM

Thanks R43. I never block people, but I just did block R41 and after reading his many asinine posts, I’m leaving him blocked.

by Anonymousreply 46October 4, 2023 11:15 PM

R21 that is always the answer given by people who do not regulate their own mouths.

by Anonymousreply 47October 6, 2023 4:40 AM

And also, R47, by single trolls with multiple accounts.

by Anonymousreply 48October 6, 2023 6:24 PM

[quote] The DL is dying a slow death.

It has been doing so for over 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 49October 6, 2023 10:25 PM

The one poster on Reddit is a looney tooney babooney and not to be taken seriously. She's all but chased others away and has made that subreddit her own little nest.

by Anonymousreply 50October 6, 2023 10:30 PM

If R9’s link 🔗 is correct this site earns a lot more money than I would’ve guessed.

by Anonymousreply 51October 6, 2023 11:28 PM

[quote] Greg has driven many posters away.

Simply by sharing pretty wonderful recipes and frequent bon mots.

by Anonymousreply 52October 8, 2023 12:08 AM

Well, similiarweb.com says that for September this website had 1.3M visits, 6.4M page views and 400k unique visitors.

Even if they didn't exclude Google bot visits etc., that's still a hell of a lot of activity.

Average visit duration of just short of 6 minutes, and 4.77 pages per visit.

by Anonymousreply 54October 8, 2023 1:46 AM

Isn't the reddit loon Davida? I heard that here.

by Anonymousreply 56October 8, 2023 1:53 AM

Too many trolls for sure. I have most blocked. Recipe troll and that LL thing are the worst right now. LL apparently thinks Muriel is stalking her and hacking her neighbor's wifi?

Oy!

by Anonymousreply 57October 8, 2023 2:50 PM

I've been reading posts since the very early days. The best days were before the shoutout from Entertainment Weekly, which vastly increased viewership overnight. (I know we are not supposed to say this, but in my opinion, it is true).

I generally only post on threads with fewer than 20 replies, when the topic is still fresh and I think I might have something to add to the conversation. I never make personal comments about myself or others, and I generally never respond to comments about my own posts. I don't want to get into flame wars.

But I log on and read post on most days.

by Anonymousreply 58October 8, 2023 3:20 PM

Is that what happened R58? I've been here since 95 and I've never been able to pinpoint when it occurred. All i know is all of our witty, funny trolls left or died. Recently, I've spent much less time here as topics I'm interested in are scarce. Too many obscure celebrities I've never heard of and don't care about and too many obviously mentally ill people let loose as well as various trolls taking up too much space and dragging this place down.

by Anonymousreply 59October 8, 2023 3:37 PM

When the board was a success it was much more heavily moderated. Attacking an authenticated was verboten. While the authentication often went to the head as a result (I'm glaring at you Mrs. Slocombe), it was a funnier, active board. This was twenty years ago. It's night and day now.

by Anonymousreply 60October 8, 2023 3:54 PM

I check in almost daily when I get home from work.

It’s part of unwinding for me, and I do feel a kinship with some of the posters here.

by Anonymousreply 61October 8, 2023 3:55 PM

I visited the DL subreddit when this site was down for a few hours a few weeks back.

I won’t return.

by Anonymousreply 62October 8, 2023 4:12 PM

R62, so did I. At first it seemed okay but it's being run by a clique of trolls or just one with socks. They all think Muriel is omnipotent and following them to reddit. A cluster fuck of complete mental illness but I do still peek in. It's like a soap opera.

by Anonymousreply 63October 8, 2023 4:16 PM

My pussy stinks, if that helps.

by Anonymousreply 65October 8, 2023 5:09 PM

Folks think the DL music threads have a couple dozen posters but it's more like 5.

by Anonymousreply 66October 8, 2023 5:10 PM

Alkie Divine at R57 is so coy.

by Anonymousreply 69October 8, 2023 5:18 PM

[quote]Folks think the DL music threads have a couple dozen posters but it's more like 5.

And one of them really, really likes Belinda Carlisle.

by Anonymousreply 70October 8, 2023 5:21 PM

You certainly can't go by Reddit. That DL subreddit is a tomb and often says 8 online but no discussions going on.

by Anonymousreply 71October 8, 2023 6:48 PM

According to Similarweb internet analytics, Datalounge had 1.3 million visits last month, so if you believe Reddit then each of those 30 people averaged 43,333 visits during the month. 🤪

by Anonymousreply 72October 8, 2023 7:09 PM

^ yeah I've been stuck to the keyboard all that time, keeping my numbers up!

by Anonymousreply 73October 8, 2023 7:49 PM

I've been here only since 2011. I feel like the first few years were the best. A combination of things - the loss of some old timers, the switch to the new version of DL, and the 2016 election - really made things worse. We have far more trolls now and far less moderation.

I still check in daily, but it's not quite what it had been. I really loved it back then. Now I'd be sad for a bit but would move on to something else.

by Anonymousreply 74October 8, 2023 11:43 PM

R72 I think both ideas could be true......

That we have a core of 30-50 people who regularly visit.....but

We also have "quick" visitors who show up for specific threads, the kind that encourage visits by "stans", and those might get a number of visits - many who may not be signed up to comment, but will check what's been posted.

by Anonymousreply 75October 8, 2023 11:45 PM

Similarweb also says the average pages per visit are 4.7 and average time per visit is 5.56 minutes.
