Greg Brady dancing on The Brady Variety Hour has been making me Giggle all day

I don’t know why I had this in my head all day at work and I kept giggling, so I Went on YouTube and watched it again. And it’s funny. I can’t believe they agreed to do this. Lmaooo

Florence and Maureen look really good here.

by Anonymousreply 2January 14, 2020 5:51 AM

Wow, I thought he was a halfway decent singer. He's really off key here.

by Anonymousreply 3January 14, 2020 6:06 AM

His dancing was as dismal as OP’s video-posting skills.

by Anonymousreply 5January 14, 2020 10:05 AM

I can’t breath right now as I’ve lost my best friend, common decency.

by Anonymousreply 6January 14, 2020 10:38 AM

That made me so...very happy, R7.

It is interesting that he seems to be the only one who has had any dance training. I wonder if he (or his parents) actually had a plan to do musical comedy after the Brady Bunch. Odd that the girls don't seem to have much dance training at all, and really odd that neither Florence Henderson or Robert Reed could dance beyond basic social dancing.

by Anonymousreply 9January 14, 2020 11:28 AM

R9, he was actually starring in a national tour of Pippin when he got the call to do this variety show. He was probably seeing Broadway as his future and this show as an ongoing audition.

by Anonymousreply 10January 14, 2020 11:34 AM

Sorry...I don't think he's that bad!! He's a good 'community theatre' kind of talent. Nothing wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 12January 14, 2020 11:40 AM

Thanks for showing how it's done, R7.

I've never actually seen this show. So many things boggling my mind right now. That anyone had the idea for it in the first place. And then they actually made it. That Robert Reed agreed to do it. That Eve Plumb didn't. That Florence was a Broadway baby yet doesn't sound very good. That I'm finding Barry kinda hot. That they had supposed brothers and sisters singing love songs to each other.

And now I have to contemplate Greg Brady as Pippin.

God I can't stop watching these clips.

I take back what I said about Florence, she had some bad moments in one of the clips but she can really sing.

Fake Jan is pretty good.

But wow...career lowpoint at ~3:25?

I’m getting a bit too excited wondering when Alice and Rip Taylor are going to pop up, and what they’re going to do.

After reading about Robert Reed’s willingness to hold up production for hours because he took issue with the idea that strawberries have an odor when they’re being cooked, what could have been going through his mind when they were filming this show? Can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 15January 14, 2020 12:54 PM

This is the only Brady thing Robert Reed enjoyed doing. And Barry would do ANYTHING to become David Cassidy. The rest did it for residuals they never got from the shows original run.

SPOILER: They're going to sway awkwardly while Rip clings for dear life to Alice's bedazzled pajamas.

I completely understand why Maureen McCormick became a druggie after watching these clips. I just don't understand how the rest of them didn't.

by Anonymousreply 18January 14, 2020 1:13 PM

He has got the music in him, does he not?

Meanwhile Robert Reed is dancing like he lost a bet.

by Anonymousreply 19January 14, 2020 1:21 PM

How embarrassing.

I guess "Variety Hours" was a thing back then for hit shows

At least he went for it. Good for him.

by Anonymousreply 22January 14, 2020 3:49 PM

He had a tight body on him at least.

Mike Brady looks like he is finally being his true self and wants to sashay and skip around the stage

I'm actually kind of into Barry here for the first time. He does show some flair for musical theatre and he has a decent voice. It's cheesy, but really entertaining. He definitely seems to really feel that music, doesn't he? He might be the best one out of the bunch in this show and that says something since Henderson and Davis were in some musicals themselves. I think Davis replaced Carol Burnett in Once Upon A Mattress. Did they ever give her a number where she was allowed to let it rip like (I assume) she did in that show?

R26, new around here?

That’s a DL tradition based on a past post.

Agreed!

Geri "Fake Jan" Reischl was hired specifically because she had a background in singing and dancing.

Barry, Maureen and Florence have decent voices. Susan and Mike were just average as was Eve. Robert and Chris were horrible and admit as such. Christopher Knight says he was told when he agreed to do the show, he would never have to do musical numbers outside the opening and closing and never alone. Of course they didn't hold to that.

by Anonymousreply 32January 16, 2020 1:03 PM

Ironic, R32, as Chris Knights mother was the biggest proponent during the original show to push them all for a singing group. Some parents thought they (kids) were going to hit the motherload of fame and money that way.
