Also, what do you consider their best song?
I always loved them! I was a kid in the 90s and loved Waterfalls the most. Absolutely loved. And still do, only now I know what the song is saying. A great song.
RIP Left Eye. She was such a unique rapper. Her style was one of a kind. I loved listening to her.

There was a realness to them that the Beyonces of the world can't match.

Crazy Sexy Cool has to be one of the best R&B/Hip Hop albums of the 90s. Fantastic album, very smooth and chill too.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 27, 2020 11:24 PM |
I did like a lot of their music. First and second albums, especially.
The DJ at a club I used to go to had a great remix of their version of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" and it was my JAM.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 27, 2020 11:27 PM |
I still love TLC. Crazy Sexy Cool is one of those albums that sounds as fresh today as when it came out.
I miss 90’s R&B/hip hop.

I was a punk kid in the 90s. But then I heard Waterfalls and I knew deep down I loved pop. Love that song. So yes, I am a fan.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 27, 2020 11:37 PM |
Loved TLC. Creep sounded fresh and was T-Boz’s best vocal. No Scrubs was a classic. They had a wide appeal, most people liked at least Waterfalls.

According to Wiki, Left Eye was reluctant to release "Creep":
[quote] Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes was opposed to it. She threatened to wear black tape over her mouth in the song's music video to express her disagreement with its message, and its selection as CrazySexyCool's lead single, and in part because of the group's history of advocating for safe sex. "I was like 'If a girl is gonna [sic] catch her man cheating,' this was my thing, 'instead of telling her to cheat back, why don't we tell her [to] just leave?'

I loved Left Eye. A cute little spitfire with a big heart and talent.
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 28, 2020 12:17 AM |
Fun fact: TLC is the artist that got Sam Hunt to love R&B and Hip Hop.

Red Light Special is their best song. Sexy video too.

I always found Chile very beautiful
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 28, 2020 12:25 AM |
I commend R1 on his / her comments.
I think WATERFALLS is beautiful and powerful, but I really like NO SCRUBS.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 28, 2020 12:28 AM |
I forget -- did they try to continue on after Left Eye's death?
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 28, 2020 12:31 AM |
R15 they stopped for a while and a few years later tried to get a new member but that didn’t work out.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 28, 2020 12:33 AM |
I know someone in her 30s and she still thinks it’s Jason Waterfalls
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 28, 2020 12:58 AM |
loved them from day one (killer singles and total realness, down to the little bit of arsonist we all have within us - and the eerieness of all the Left Eye death stuff adds to their legend.
Most surprising singke? Late-period 'Damaged'....

You just know that Sarah Huckabee-Sanders played "Unpretty" on an endless repetition after school, while she cried.

I loved Left Eye 'cause a bitch got revenge by setting her man's house on fire.
I went as Left Eye to a Halloween event one year. Every so often I ran through the room with high top tennis shoes and an eyepatch and just kept saying "Fire! Fire!"

Fanmail was their best album hands down. Not a bad song on it. Love the songs they didn't release as singles more - If They Knew, I'm Good At Being Bad, Automic, Shout and Don't Pull Out On Me Yet
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 28, 2020 1:57 AM |
Love. Them. So. Much.
Honey, I was a black baby gay growing up in NYC. This was my soundtrack.

Baby-Baby-Baby from their first album sold me on them. It's one of my top 5 TLC songs.

They were amazing. I saw Left Eye at California Pizza Kitchen and she was absolutely gorgeous. Just stunning. The camera must've hated her.

R27 I always heard she was radiant in person. And very nice.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 28, 2020 2:55 AM |
My sister and her two ugly friends did a choreographed dance to Waterfalls at a school assembly. It was woeful. And hilarious.

They had the longevity I had hoped En Vogue had.

90’s teen here and I loved all of TLC’s 90’s albums. However, I must be honest - Left Eye was my least favorite since I felt all of her raps were annoying and ruined otherwise great songs (Waterfalls).
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 28, 2020 3:12 AM |
R29, that sounds like a Pen15 skit come to life.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 28, 2020 3:16 AM |
Aw, disagree, t31st - Left Eye was my favorite. Even if she did sound like Bart Simpson rapping at times, LOL.
| by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 28, 2020 3:17 AM |
LOL 33! I can't unhear that now.
| by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 28, 2020 3:18 AM |
I thought Left Eye's rap in Waterfalls was surprising and essentially "made" the song.
| by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 28, 2020 12:14 PM |
I was walking through MGM casino in Las Vegas, turned around and through the doors I saw Chili walk in with a bunch of people. I wanted to shout out that I knew who she was, that their music was so meaningful to me but I figured she probably got that all the time and wanted to be left alone. So I just stared at her and she made eye contact and stared back and then went on her way.
The first time I saw this video I was like who are these girls? They seem so cool! Yes, they are much more likeable than pop today.

I remember one of their albums included some geometric folded pop up fold thing. Left Eye said she loved math and included the shape. In the album booklet she explained how she thought of life and relationships as math. Negativity plus negativity equals more negativity, positive plus positive is more positive and positive and negative is a battle of which is greater. Something like that.
| by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 28, 2020 12:37 PM |
For sure! Loved Left Eye especially, she was so cool and smart.
| by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 28, 2020 1:28 PM |
Anyone know the skit video where they were hanging out at a bar and ask how much they owed for some drinks?
| by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 28, 2020 1:46 PM |
I don't like rap, rnb, or ghetto ' culture ' in general. I don't know why you people revel in low class crass degrading acts like that.
| by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 28, 2020 1:49 PM |
Shut up@R41 I still love them. Their music is timeless
| by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 28, 2020 1:51 PM |

R44 If it has to be Black, Jessy Norman ?
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 28, 2020 2:07 PM |
TLC wasn’t ghetto though. None of them are ghetto, and all intelligent hard working women. Being black doesn’t make someone ghetto. R&B and Hip Hop don’t equal ghetto.
| by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 28, 2020 2:27 PM |
Yes they do R47. R&B and HIP HOP are the definition of ghetto.
| by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 28, 2020 2:45 PM |
R48 no. They aren’t. Seriously you need help. You’re always posting ignorant and racist shit.
| by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 28, 2020 2:50 PM |
R49 that's because I am ignorant and racist. But seriously I am tired of you people always crying racism. Like this cunt fuggo rapist basketball player was a hero now ? LOL. R&B, RAP, HIP HOP are SHIT and have lowered and destroyer the standards to the ground. You people killed music. So fuck off.

LOVED them. They were genuinely fun, actually had their own personalities (that were quite dirty or wry for the sensibilities of the time), and always came with great music and videos. The clips for 'Unpretty' and 'Waterfalls' are still so moving.
Favourite song is "Let's Do It Again", but I also love "Hands Up", "Don't Pull Out On Me Yet", "Baby Baby Baby", "Red Light Special", "Diggin On You", "Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes" , "That's the Way We Like Em", "Sleigh Ride", "FanMail", "Get It Up", "This Is How It Works", "No Scrubs", "Unpretty"... etc.
The entire CSC album was so beautifully produced, with classic Philly Soul string arrangements, modern Babyface-style smooth songwriting, and enough elements of funk and hip hop to keep it current and lively. Deep subject matter, and great vocal performances considering none of them were great singers (love hearing Chilli on a bridge). T-Boz probably has one of the most unique and unusual voices to top commercial radio, this was pre-Macy Gray and Billie Eilish etc. It's thin, raspy, almost flat but quite emotional and expressive. Definitely stood out, and probably wouldn't make it now.

It's been ages since we had a good girl group. Back then we had TLC, Eternal, Xscape, All Saints, Spice Girls, En Vogue, Jomanda, Brownstone, Zhané, 702, Salt n Pepa, Total, Kut Klose, Jade, Destiny's Child, For Real, and my faves SWV.
Today I can't even think of one.
| by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 28, 2020 3:04 PM |
Loved them. Probably don't go a week without thinking of them in their satin pajamas.

| by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 28, 2020 3:20 PM |
I remember when Left Eye died, the internet was still new enough that we couldn't get any real news about what had happened for a few days. People weren't even sure she'd died and thought maybe it was a rumor started because she'd been in another accident a couple weeks earlier, one where a little boy died.
The documentary was actually pretty good but it spawned several terrible conspiracy theories, so it's kind of a mixed bag.
| by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 28, 2020 3:24 PM |
You're just old. Like super super old.
| by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 28, 2020 3:28 PM |
R56 what are those theories?
| by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 28, 2020 7:38 PM |
R19: that's hilariously sad and worthy of a thread all of its own.
| by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 29, 2020 1:38 AM |
R56, I remember Aaliyah's death overshadowing Left Eye's death quite a bit (they died around the same time).
| by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 29, 2020 1:08 PM |
Yes, Aaliyah’s was more tragic because she was even younger and on the rise.
| by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 29, 2020 2:20 PM |
Aaliyah died late August 2001 and Lisa died in late April 2002 so I’m not sure that I follow your thinking R60.
| by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 30, 2020 12:57 AM |
Aaliyah's death was overshadowed by 9/11.
| by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 30, 2020 1:08 AM |
R62, oops. Thought that they died at the same time.
