Gal Gadot's very first VOGUE cover

I missed it because of this virus.

I remember reading from a few posters that Gal Gadot wasn't good enough to grace the cover, so what do you think?!

I think it suits her down to the ground.

She reminds me of Dua Lipa. There's something very "in between" about both of them.

by Anonymousreply 1September 1, 2020 4:54 AM

I feel like this does her face a disservice. She's really beautiful, but the shadows and something about her eyes look off. She actually looks a bit like Kim Kardashian in this photo.

by Anonymousreply 2September 1, 2020 4:57 AM

Hideous! Fire the photographer! Utter garbage. She is way more beautiful than THAT shitty cover photo!

by Anonymousreply 3September 1, 2020 5:01 AM

I thought Annie Liebowitz was the photographer.

Gadot looks good. I like her and I like her comic book movies. I want her to succeed.

She's got quite small tits. This could be a problem for American stardom but that can be fixed.

by Anonymousreply 4September 1, 2020 5:05 AM

I feel like fake tits are sort of passe. They are associated with low rent (Kardashian, Instaho etc.).

by Anonymousreply 5September 1, 2020 5:09 AM

Gal if you're reading this, leave your tits alone.

She’s a gorgeous woman, but I never seem to recognize her. In this one, she looks like Kim Kardashian.

Also, it’s a bad photo. It’s dark or something.

by Anonymousreply 7September 1, 2020 5:15 AM

Who at Vogue hates her enough to make her wear this? And with no color on her lip? Ghastly.

R8, and the hair. Do something with the hair!

Not a slam on Gal, because she’s beautiful. It’s the styling and photographer.

Although she may not be a good model, even with her perfect looks. It’s a talent and not all beautiful people have it. If that makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 9September 1, 2020 5:18 AM

I agree that it's not a good photo of Gadot. She's much prettier than that. (Her body looks okay, but I don't like the tacky gown.)

Leibowitz is a tired, cliched, gimmicky one-trick pony. She has no business shooting fashion, which she never understood. It's shocking how highly regarded this mediocre photographer is in publishing, music, and fashion, based solely on name recognition. She's a hack.

I skipped the interview but the visuals left a lot to be desired. It seems like those queens who doubted her appropriateness were right to do so.

It'd be nice if Vogue cut out celebrity covers entirely and just went back to models. I don't care what some actress thinks I just want to see beautiful people wearing beautiful things.

I'd agree, R11, but we're in an age where "fashion models" consist of one of the homely Hadid sisters. Or Apple Martin. Or worse.

I'll take Gal Gadot, thanks.

I was reading criticism from people on twitter months ago directed at Annie Leibovitz (I'm sorry, I never learnt much about her) from black women, I agreed with some of the criticisms after looking at most of the pictures, but still appreciated her raw style in a couple of them.

R11, I agree. It’s been a looooong time, but seeing the other articles in that section, it seems Vogue is being extra woke. They need to leave that alone and focus on fashion and glamour.

Or maybe it’s a generational thing, and their target demographic doesn’t feel an experience is complete unless there’s a lecture involved.

I didn't mean kardashatits! I meant a small, aesthetically pleasing improvement.

British Vogue, on the other hand, is doing important work under the eye of Edward Enninful.

I think she's gorgeous. Her face has a somewhat round baby face quality to it that I really like.

OP here, I've come down off my high and looked at the cover properly, I don't like it as much now - thank you for your posts - but I still like the idea of it, it could have been a wonderful cover with a few tweaks! One thing seems certain, Annie Leibovitz has well and truly fallen out of Vogue.

r9. You are right, the hair is off, but they did do something with it! It's this overdone slicked back trend, some kind of heavy, oily product is applied through the hair, and then the sides are combed back really tightly and the back is styled to be deliberately dishevelled yet weighed down by the oil. They use it for for every magazine cover or red carpet look when they want the model or actress to have a sort of just-out=of-the-shower-punk-natural look, it's not natural! Gal would have been better off turning down their professional styling and leaving her silky hair be, would have helped things so much.

I didn't realise the top of the dress was mesh, I don't like that, clashes with what they were going for.

Gal is letting her jaw hang slightly, at the direction of A.L? Who knows. I don't think she needed to do that, I don't think r2's observation about something being wrong with her eyes would have cropped up if she'd left her jaw in a natural closed resting potion, it's all too slacked looking.

Look up "Gal Gadot silver dress", she usually owns this look! Easygoing glam, with a sparkle in her eye.

From 2018:

I do think she's pretty, but I see her as having a very generic beauty, although she will likely be exceptionally beautiful post-40 for women of that age. But as a youth she has that "safe" beauty. The clothing in the spread were ghastly, and didn't do her any favors.

Ugly, unfresh face and atrocious posing....

I like her. That's a great red lip in the beauty shot.
