Figure skater could become first non-binary athlete in Winter Olympics

Wasn't they 'openly queer' in 2019? I'm confused...

Non-binary is such a joke

[quote]American figure skater Timothy LeDuc could become the first [bold]out non-binary person[/bold] to compete at the Winter Olympics in [bold]a historic milestone for LGBTQ+ representation.[/bold]

[...]

[quote]With next month’s Winter Olympics also expected to [bold]break records for LGBTQ+ inclusion[/bold], it wouldn’t be the first time LeDuc has been a part of history. They were the first [bold]openly queer[/bold] athlete to win gold in the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championship, competing in the pairs event with Cain-Gribble.

[quote]LeDuc being an out athlete at the elite level has nonetheless presented its share of challenges. In a recent interview, LeDuc said that [bold]it can be “complicated navigating a gendered sport” as someone who “really thrives outside of the binary.”[/bold]

"Out" "non-binary"?

A historic milestone?

They is no longer a gay man, [italic]they[/italic] is now a queer non-binary.

by Anonymousreply 3January 9, 2022 5:20 PM

Hold this space since in a few years he'll come out as trans

by Anonymousreply 4January 9, 2022 5:22 PM

He’s got a luxuriant beard and goes by the name Timothy, so color this eldergay pronoun confused. Maybe all these pics are old and he’s starting up with the makeup and dresses. That’s fine if that’s what he’s into. Sounds like a case of “look at ME” though. I’d never have heard of the guy if he hadn’t proclaimed his binaryness.

I suppose eventually it might be "pairs" competition... two humans performing together the "rule"...

... seems unnecessary to me, but I am an old man, and really I don't care. Let them find the level they need. I am much more interested in stopping the destruction of the planet than whether someone starts plucking eyebrows and changes pronouns.

by Anonymousreply 14January 9, 2022 5:40 PM

'LeDuc" is NOT a non-binary name. It's French for "The Duke," with a masculine pronoun.

They needs to selves-rename themselves "LxDukess."

by Anonymousreply 15January 9, 2022 5:49 PM

R18, explain to me how someone with no sex can be gay since gay is defined as attraction to the same sex. And, if you can't explain that, then go ahead and explain how this bullshit then isn't erasing gays. I'll wait here for you to never answer...

by Anonymousreply 22January 9, 2022 9:34 PM

I think the correct news would be:

First Larper in Winter Olympics.

First Male Larper.

by Anonymousreply 23January 9, 2022 9:40 PM

From the article:

[quote]As a member of Canada’s national team, soccer star Quinn became the first openly trans athlete to compete on the Olympic stage. Following their team’s win against Sweden in the final, they also became the first trans athlete to win a gold medal.

Hm, wonder why they forgot to mention that she was a woman competing on the women's soccer team?

[quote]There are going to be the people that don’t understand it,” LeDuc told the podcast My New Favorite Olympian earlier this month. “They look at me and see I have a beard or they look at me and maybe see my physical characteristics and say, ‘You’re a boy, act like a boy. What are you doing?’”

The internalized homophobia and overt sexism is ridiculous. The problem he has is that he doesn't want to be perceived as feminine or "acting like a girl", so he'll deny all sex instead. What any sane adult man would do is say, "Call me a girl all you want, I know who I am, a proud gay man. So, fuck off while I go win some medals." But, he has internalized the misogyny and hates that he's gay. He's a loser, not some groundbreaking hero.

by Anonymousreply 24January 9, 2022 9:44 PM

[quote] They were the first openly queer athlete to win gold

Um, no.

by Anonymousreply 25January 9, 2022 9:51 PM

R1 I dont think its a joke if you are very androgynous/non conforming. But if you clearly and intentionally look like you ARE binary and you ARE one gender but you stick the nb label on yourself to be special then fuck off. The person calling themselves that here is a fucking DUDE. Thats what they intentionally are trying to be seen as. Nothing non binary about him.

by Anonymousreply 27January 9, 2022 10:38 PM

It's totally a joke r27.

It's for narcissists and confused lesbians, and not much else.

People desperately want to be different so they self-identify into a minority so they can claim special status and also be star of their own dramatic lives where they are the victim and oppressed.

Like "queer", it's meaningless, and all it communicates to most sane people is "I'm self-involved and exhausting, and not that interesting".

by Anonymousreply 28January 9, 2022 10:41 PM

R28 its so weird as a Gen X-er...our motto was "We hate labels". These young idiots are obsessed with them.

by Anonymousreply 29January 9, 2022 10:44 PM

R18 now it's a GOP thing because DL called a spade a spade? Nice ageism as well, you know, something that is real, unlike this "gender" crap. I'm a millennial and don't remember anyone having to call themselves "non binary" for liking things typical to the opposite sex. This shit is pure sexism because it's regressive. You're no longer a male because you like makeup? The 50s called, they want their backwards beliefs back.

by Anonymousreply 30January 9, 2022 11:20 PM

NO wonder his eyebrows looked ridiculous during nationals. He has always identify as gay. How ridiculous and embarrassing at this age. .

by Anonymousreply 31January 9, 2022 11:28 PM

[quote]I dont think its a joke if you are very androgynous/non conforming.

There has never been one "non-binary" person whose sex wasn't obvious. Absolutely ridiculous. Can you imagine this naked man with a beard, dick, and balls proclaiming himself "unsexed" as he's about to fuck you? These people are insane.

The entire point of both the gay and women's right's movements was to move beyond this gender stereotype bullshit but no the SJWokesters are pushing it harder than any ninety year old grandpa wondering why all the girls are wearing pants and not staying home in a dress to make him a sandwich ever did.

by Anonymousreply 32January 9, 2022 11:41 PM

R30 indeed. Its no longer abput opening up the possibility of what being a man or woman can be, its about closing it up.

by Anonymousreply 33January 10, 2022 12:55 AM

I can't stand "they" used to refer to a singular person. It existed before the non-binary movement, a common grammar "mistake" that was common place -- especially spoken. "I gave the cashier my money, but they gave me the wrong change." It's even worse when written, and even WORSE, if it's among a "they" that is being used to properly to refer to multiple people. Can't non-binary come up with something else in place of he or she.

by Anonymousreply 34January 10, 2022 1:52 AM

About trans non-binary skater, Eliot Halverson (in video with LeDuc at R13):

[quote]Eliot Halverson describes her identities as “confusing and messy.”

[quote]A three-time U.S. Figure Skating champion at the intermediate, novice and junior levels, Halverson is Colombian-born, was adopted and raised by a white Minnesotan family and is transgender non-binary.

[...]

[quote]“Much like racism, the homophobia and transphobia that goes on in figure skating is rampant,” Halverson said. “People would make fun of gay skaters, and they would make fun of me. Within the [skating] community, [being gay] is a bad thing to be because that is the laughingstock of our sport.”

[quote]Halverson was 17 when she came out as gay.

[...]

[quote]“I identify as trans because the sex I was assigned at birth does not match my gender,” Halverson explained. “My gender is non-binary. For me, that is a fluid mix of being a man and woman. [Nonetheless,] I feel safe, happy and comfortable presenting as female. That is why my pronouns are she/her.”

R29: "its so weird as a Gen X-er...our motto was 'We hate labels'."

And the last thing on earth we were looking for was a "safe space", FFS. Shouldn't young people WANT to party and get a little wild? I mean, hasn't that been true all through history? Isn't it just... natural?

by Anonymousreply 37January 10, 2022 3:07 AM

R34, the word you're looking for is 'it'. Already exists. Simple to use. The arguments for the singular they are ridiculous. Yes, it was used when the sex was unknown or didn't matter. We know the sex of these morons and they certainly think it fucking matters. Just refer to them as it. What could possibly be their logical argument against using 'it' if they are trying to argue the logic of a singular 'they' at the same time.

r24. They've long been consistent with their lying tactic: intentional omission (and distortion) of important words and blurring (just like all the frauds do) just to celebrate trans(lgbtq+) victory/excellence, trans(lgbtq+) athlete's rights, trans(lgbtq+) progress.

by Anonymousreply 39January 10, 2022 3:45 AM

They? Both of them? Or he or she? Fuck this THEM shit.

by Anonymousreply 40January 10, 2022 4:22 AM

I only ever used "they" when I was more closeted and was trying to obfuscate the sex of the people I was hanging out with.

Since "gay" is no longer special or unique enough, "nonbinary/trans" is the next step. And it's also a good cover for internalized (and externalized) homophobia.

You can see it in r35's post - Eliot, a man, is embarrassed because as a gay figure skater he's a cliche. (Add in all the other ethnicity obsession too). So instead of being a gay man, he's self-identified as a nonbinary with she/they pronouns (I'm assuming). That way, in his mind, he's not REALLY gay, a cliche, and Hispanic on top of that.

It's a smokescreen for his ego.

Renat Laishev, President of the Sambo-70, reacted to the news that the American figure skater Timothy LeDuc will become the first non-binary athlete at the Winter Olympics. LeDuc, who previously announced that he does not consider himself either a man or a woman, is competing with Ashley Kane-Gribble. LeDuc is also openly gay.

“I can't even hear about such topics, let alone discuss. I am nauseous when a discussion begins about boy-boy "friendship", a transgender winning a song contest, and so on. It's like the whole world has gone crazy. I am far from all this. I am for a classic relationship and have kept balance all my life. It is necessary to maintain the classical position - according to all religions, which are for the natural relationship between a man and a woman. Therefore, I do not even want to understand this. I myself live in this world, and all my entourage knows that even close to such a topic should not be. I do not accept this categorically. In fact, this is a terrible tendency and a mockery of our country. It seems to me that they themselves have a different attitude to it there. This is done only in order to somehow stir us up and to show that we are not tolerant and undemocratic. Such mass movements are nonsense, ” Laishev said.

by Anonymousreply 55January 11, 2022 1:25 PM

The only trans people that are allowed and do speak out about it are republican/conservative/ libertarian trans so that wont go anywhere.

Because some people can have the traits of both men and women... at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 58January 11, 2022 1:48 PM

"We scold the IOC for opening the way for transgender people to compete, but the IOC, perhaps, in this way simply decided to get rid of unnecessary ballast. Let's say, Leduc made up a pair with either a man nor a woman - why is it not a reason to exclude pair skating from the Olympic Games competition program altogether? It is clearly stated in the rules of the international skating federation: The ISU states that a pairs team must consist of one Lady and one Man. Full stop."

Short speech by LeDuc (if the url isn't too long)

by Anonymousreply 73January 13, 2022 2:34 AM

Figure skating coach Alexander Zhulin commented on the criticism he received because of statements about American Timothy LeDuc, who will become the first non-binary athlete at the Winter Olympics. LeDuc pairs with Ashley Kane-Gribble. Non-binary people do not identify themselves as either male or female.

“Four people called me about Timothy LeDuc. Usually these journalists call about Eteri Tutberidze, but this time they called about LeDuc. He does not know whether he is a woman or a man. Either a pig, or a fly, or an unknown little animal. And he is with a beard, quite plastic ... And these journalists do not ask: “Sasha, how are you doing? You have a wife, three children, you are a world champion. How do you live in general? They ask me about LeDuc. I answer: "Go to hell with your freaks." And hung up. The next day, it was written everywhere that Zhulin called a non-binary athlete a freak. It all spread, grew, and one very scary Canadian girl (Megan Duhamel - Sports.ru) then wrote that I should apologize. But what's the point! Look, in America, a black girl weighing 115 kg plays in the play The Beauty. And she herself says that she is happy to do this, because she could not do this before. But now everyone has become tolerant. Go ahead. There is a pedophile who says that he never enjoyed interacting with people his own age - only with boys and girls of 8 years old, he succeeds. And people agree: look, well, he is really an unhappy person, we really need to provide it for him. Go ahead. And if a person says: “I can only rape. Otherwise, I don't enjoy it. I need to make sure to catch a woman in the park. Otherwise, I'm unhappy." This is what we will come to in the end,” Zhulin said.

by Anonymousreply 77January 20, 2022 11:32 PM

On a slightly tangential note...

official rules notwithstanding, could two muscular ~180-220lb/100kg guys with hockey/football-player builds actually pull off doing traditional pair skating moves together? Or would one 200lb guy taking a flying leap at another 200lb guy probably leave both of them in a crumpled, bleeding heap on the ice... probably with multiple broken bones?

by Anonymousreply 78January 21, 2022 12:11 AM

I don't know, r78. If they do it nude, I will watch.

by Anonymousreply 79January 21, 2022 12:13 AM

Assuming I haven't completely botched the math, I can't conceive how two big, beefy guys of equal height & weight could possibly pull off something like a 'headbanger' spin. The guy doing the holding would almost have to limbo dance on skates while spinning and holding the other to "balance the equation". Or maybe find some way to discreetly slip on a lead vest and/or chaps to temporarily double his own mass relative to the other guy.

by Anonymousreply 80January 21, 2022 12:34 AM

R78, I think they could probably pull it off, just not with the same moves/rules - I think people already do this at the Gay Games, right? Not with the huge body weight but similar in size.

The amount of homophobia in FS is shocking considering the sport. Anyone that thinks it's easy to come out as anything other than Mr. Heterosexual must not follow or be into FS in any way. I don't care for this identity change, but more power to them.

by Anonymousreply 83January 21, 2022 12:48 AM

Well, I know that mass matters. It's the reason why adult-sized playground equipment isn't a real thing. I think there was an episode of "Jackass" or Bam where they made a custom 40 foot tall teflon-coated sliding board, and they all ended up black & blue and with sprained ankles just from riding it "normally". One of the guys flew off the end so hard, he ended up splayed on the ground a good 5 or 6 feet away.

You can read the gruff Russian coach's statement at r43 and, I mean to me or seems like if we had JUST STOPPED at the "boy boy friendship" stage, as he puts it, we could have eventually have gotten the 70 year old man to NOT kill us or more importantly vote against our rights. But we didn't, the fucking gender benders have literally poisoned the well and we are FUCKED and some of you dummies are still trying to defend them. Good luck assholes.

LeDuc and partner could wear matching skirts! Wonder if the legs are as lovely as Ms Jenner's?
