Watching for the first time on Tubi. I can't remember the last time a movie score moved me so much from the very beginning of the movie. It deserved the Oscar it got. Why does Eva SM look so different from North by Northwest which was only a year earlier? Sal shows a fair amount of his beautiful chest. Getting a bit of a history lesson. Very brief but moving scene with Sal and his real life gf/beard JH when they talk about justice and understanding. Paul Newman is meh.

Probably the last good film Preminger made. Ernest Gold the score's composer was married to 'the ghostess with the mostess' Marni Nixon. Preminger's best film was probably Anatomy of a Murder (1959)

You know - I am staring at a beautiful first edition copy of Exodus that I picked up a few years ago - I “keep meaning to read it” and I haven’t. I also picked up Leon Uris’ QB Vii and the more obscure Mila 18 about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. I haven’t read them yet. …. Then I have Exodus taking up space on my DVR - I still haven’t watched it - why??? I can’t explain my procrastination on this!!! Jill Haworth the original Sally Bowles in musical Cabaret is in it ….

I found the novel easy to get into and very interesting. The movie seemed overblown, sentimental, and badly acted to me. At the premiere, the comedian Mort Sahl stood up as it entered its third hour and called out, "Otto: let my people go!"

#2 Here - I love Herman Wouk - especially Marjorie Morningstar, Winds of War and War and Remembrance - I am looking forward to the Uris books - I don’t know what my hold has been!!

I don't know why Sal was nominated here. For the 10 seconds he cries about the Nazis making him a sex slave? He's basically doing his switchblade kid routine. He's running around like a hot pocket gay in most of his scenes.

JH may be the best actor in this. She really brings something to the part. Holy Cow! She's dead. Sal is sobbing.
