Everytime it rains, it rains pennies from heaven

Composed by Arthur Johnston for the movie "Pennies from Heaven".

I mistakenly thought this was a Gershwin tune but I am happily corrected.

This is Billie Holiday singing this great song.

They don't make them like this anymore. My favorite recording is by Louis Prima, but Barbara Cook sang a lilting version in London in the 90s (not recorded for an album, but audio of the concert in its entirety is on YouTube) that is a close second.

I'm also partial to this live television performance by the McGuire Sisters, featuring impressive umbrella choreography!

Was introduced by Bing Crosby, who sang it in the movie...it became one of his signature songs.

I love this song. I wish I knew more about music, but there's something very interesting changing melodically and harmonically with the line "So when it starts to thunder, don't run under a tree". It gives you a pang.

It's both a happy and very sad song because it's about hope when you're very poor. It's a song of the Great Depression and so many lovely tunes were written then about being broke but in love. Can you possibly imagine the same sentiment being written today? It seems most popular tunes are about bragging, wet ass pussies, and bullshit "empowerment". What happened to romance and hope?

Who’s seen the Steve Martin film of the same name featuring the song?

It’s magnificent.

Also, I am hot for the balding guy lipsyncing Pennies from Heaven here.

OP, thank you for reminding me of this lovely song and the lovely Miss Holiday's rendition of it. Just what is needed on a tired Tuesday....

I honestly read OP’s title as “Everytime it rains, it rains PENISES from heaven”. I need to get wet.
