Awe Olly Murs performance and the choreography of the dancers was divine

by Anonymousreply 2May 7, 2023 8:46 PM

Anyone else watching? Stevie Winwood just did Higher Love with a global live and virtual backing chorus

by Anonymousreply 5May 7, 2023 9:00 PM

R5 where are you watching?

by Anonymousreply 6May 7, 2023 9:02 PM

My local PBS is carrying it.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2023 9:03 PM

Oh I see that r7. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 8May 7, 2023 9:05 PM

The weather looks perfect in London tonight. That sky look absolutely gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 9May 7, 2023 9:06 PM

R9 it's Windsor in Berkshire

by Anonymousreply 11May 7, 2023 9:10 PM

Steve Winwood...sticking with the big guns then.

by Anonymousreply 12May 7, 2023 9:11 PM

I’m so sad Harry and Meghan arent there. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 13May 7, 2023 9:11 PM

Lionel Richie’s voice has been gone for years. Idk why he still sings

by Anonymousreply 14May 7, 2023 9:12 PM

Steve Winwood and the Higher Love choir was quite good.

Loved the Opera/Ballet/RSC collab of Romeo & Juliet/Somewhere performance.

by Anonymousreply 15May 7, 2023 9:22 PM

Charles seems far more humble than I had given him credit for. When William was speaking just now on stage and he said "Thank you, Pa" it was obvious Charles was trying not to cry. He must be tripping balls right now. Pretty surreal shit. He's the King! Finally! It's all happening.

by Anonymousreply 16May 7, 2023 9:28 PM

R12 The message of Charles' reign is turning out to be, simply, Love. "Higher Love" was a perfect theme for this concert. This whole weekend has been so big-hearted and wholesome! I've been sobbing all weekend. It's a beautiful moment in history. Feels like the world just got happier, and a bit brighter. I feel hope again!

by Anonymousreply 17May 7, 2023 9:32 PM

Omg why is this so beautiful?!

by Anonymousreply 19May 7, 2023 9:38 PM

t14 Sophie and Edward seemed to enjoy it- they and other royals were dancing to his performances!

by Anonymousreply 20May 7, 2023 9:38 PM

Ummmm this cover of “Dont You Forget About Me” is phenomenal

by Anonymousreply 21May 7, 2023 9:39 PM

Oh my this singer Zack is impressive

by Anonymousreply 22May 7, 2023 9:39 PM

Blown away omg and the lights and images...incredible

by Anonymousreply 24May 7, 2023 9:41 PM

As ridiculous as the concept of a hereditary monarch is, having a politically neutral and non partisan head of state who can effectively take on philanthropic causes works for the UK.

by Anonymousreply 25May 7, 2023 9:44 PM

I’m watching this and thinking back to the predictions of disaster made on another DL thread over the past few weeks…

DLs fortune-tellers proven wrong yet again.

by Anonymousreply 26May 7, 2023 9:50 PM

R26 this is the coronation concert. He hasn’t even started his reign and you’re running your mouth.

by Anonymousreply 27May 7, 2023 9:51 PM

With that said, I loved Katy Perry.

by Anonymousreply 28May 7, 2023 9:51 PM

Ummmm that isn’t Take That unless all of them are there.

by Anonymousreply 29May 7, 2023 9:52 PM

R27, he started his reign several months ago.

by Anonymousreply 30May 7, 2023 9:53 PM

What are Mark and Howard doing while Gary is duetting with this homosexual?

by Anonymousreply 31May 7, 2023 9:53 PM

Katy Perry was absolutely bloody fantastic!! Really brilliant!! Such a great booking for this concert. She suits wearing gold!

Thanks for telling me what I already knew! I’m talking about the concert, which was predicted to be a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 34May 7, 2023 9:54 PM

Oh they let little Mark sing!

by Anonymousreply 35May 7, 2023 9:54 PM

Katy Perry needed the back up singers to cover her not being able to hit the notes and running out of breath.

by Anonymousreply 36May 7, 2023 9:56 PM

[quote] Charles seems far more humble than I had given him credit for. When William was speaking just now on stage and he said "Thank you, Pa" it was obvious Charles was trying not to cry.

Charles is either having a hissy fit (about William & Kate being late, pens) or he's about to burst into tears.

by Anonymousreply 37May 7, 2023 10:00 PM

r36 She performed brilliantly as did the back up singers. The choreography, her stage presence, ability to connect with the audience and put on a great show was top class.

by Anonymousreply 38May 7, 2023 10:00 PM

Glad that Take That didn't get Lulu out and trigger memories of 1992.

by Anonymousreply 39May 7, 2023 10:01 PM

What would William the Bastard think of all this?

by Anonymousreply 41May 7, 2023 10:05 PM

Yeah it was on YouTube but it stopped streaming.

by Anonymousreply 42May 7, 2023 10:10 PM

Well done! Touche! I was one of the naysayers cringing viscerally over the anticipated lameness of this concert. And then here I was, crying, laughing, dancing, singing and clapping through the entire thing. Amazing.

by Anonymousreply 44May 7, 2023 10:11 PM

They should have tried getting The Spice Girls also

by Anonymousreply 45May 7, 2023 10:11 PM

r40 They went over time . I think that's why.

by Anonymousreply 46May 7, 2023 10:11 PM

You sound cringeworthy R44.

by Anonymousreply 47May 7, 2023 10:13 PM

You sound like a cunt R47.

It was a well produced concert that a lot of people were really dismissive of.

by Anonymousreply 48May 7, 2023 10:19 PM

And you sound like a frau R48.

by Anonymousreply 49May 7, 2023 10:20 PM

What a scathing insult R49. I feel so wounded.

by Anonymousreply 51May 7, 2023 10:30 PM

R47 I actually agree. That persons comments are really cringey and over the top.

by Anonymousreply 52May 7, 2023 10:31 PM

You're on DL, a gay space. Make of it what you want R51.

by Anonymousreply 53May 7, 2023 10:31 PM

Where was Robbie Williams?

by Anonymousreply 54May 7, 2023 10:34 PM

drunk, oxyed, and pruney in a hot tub.

by Anonymousreply 55May 7, 2023 10:36 PM

Robbie acts like he’s too good for them now.

by Anonymousreply 56May 7, 2023 10:37 PM

What can I say? I'm a fag. I Mary-ed out. This Coronation weekend has been heartwarming and cathartic. It's been a weird, shitty, painful and destabilizing few years. The Trump election and pandemic fucked up my brain chemistry and my connection to friends, family and the outside world. Since 2020 I have felt degrees of hopeless, and at times, suicidal. This weekend is the first time I've felt truly alive, optimistic and connected to the world in a long time. If that makes me cringe, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 57May 7, 2023 10:47 PM

^^Wait sorry. I was't 47. I was R44. ^^

by Anonymousreply 58May 7, 2023 10:53 PM

Meanwhile in Montecito, Doria is rolling a doobie in the pool house for Harry, while Meghan is in the 'study', negotiating deals with Backgrid, Netflix and Popeyes.

by Anonymousreply 60May 7, 2023 10:59 PM

Sounds more interesting R60.

by Anonymousreply 61May 7, 2023 11:01 PM

And why wasn't I invited?? I got my autotuning hip button all lubricated and shined up so that I'd sound as good as I did at last summer's concert for...what was her name?

by Anonymousreply 62May 7, 2023 11:02 PM

The Coronation has been a triumph for beauty. The beauty of Westminster Abbey, the carriages, the crowns, the swords, the clothes. the music, the singing, the history.

It was a ceremony with its roots deep in history yet reflective of the country as it is at the moment and looked forward to the future.

I hope you continue your recovery - fill your life with joy!

by Anonymousreply 63May 7, 2023 11:06 PM

Did Camilla have the boy servants carry her around on her royal chair Cleopatra style?

by Anonymousreply 64May 7, 2023 11:10 PM

R63 Thank you, sweetheart xoxo

by Anonymousreply 65May 7, 2023 11:13 PM

The highlight of the concert for me

by Anonymousreply 66May 7, 2023 11:13 PM

R66 I loved that performance

by Anonymousreply 67May 7, 2023 11:16 PM

It’s unfortunate that I dance like Prince Edward. The poor Duke of Edinburgh was also next to a black woman which definitely did not put his dancing skills in a good light.

by Anonymousreply 68May 7, 2023 11:19 PM

Go fuck yourself, moron. This thread is about the coronation concert. You Klan Grannies bore the shit out of everyone.

by Anonymousreply 69May 8, 2023 12:29 AM

It was really well produced and moved along at a pretty brisk pace. Lionel Ritchie was impressive, for a guy in his 70s, and I normally don't care for Katy Perry but she acquitted herself well here. Take That were entertaining, the crowd clearly knew their oeuvre and loved singing along.

Had been wondering about the lack of classic British rockers, who seemed to jump up every time the late Queen had an event. Rod Stewart, Brian May and the like were notable no-shows. Eric Clapton has previously spoken of his friendship with Charles and Camilla so was surprised he wasn't there. Was Steve Winwood a last-minute addition? He is Camilla's sister Annabel's in-law, his daughter is married to Ben Eliot. His grandson was one of the pageboys holding Camilla's robes at the coronation.

by Anonymousreply 70May 8, 2023 1:29 AM

I was wondering that too, R70. The Kinks, The Who, The Stones, Rod Stewart, Def Leppard? Boy George, the Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode? Harry Styles? Spice Girls?? Damon Albarn/Gorillaz would have been fantastic up there. So many questions.

Clearly they were going for a very G-rated, family-friendly vibe. Themes of triumph, love, community, joy, etc. Honestly it was kind of perfect, which I was not expecting it to be. (But you can't help but mourn for the death of rock and roll sometimes!)

by Anonymousreply 71May 8, 2023 1:44 AM

That is very interesting about Steve Winwood. I just watched a doc about Camilla (liking her more and more all the time). Her nephew Ben Elliot gave good talking head. He's cute and seems sharp. You're saying he is married to Steve Winwood's daughter, R70?

by Anonymousreply 72May 8, 2023 1:45 AM

One thing I've been noticing since Queen Elizabeth died and was demonstrated clearly tonight, the royals are more comfortable "letting loose" in public now. We would never have seen the royals get out of their seats and dance at a concert during Elizabeth's reign.

Was Princess Anne at the concert?

by Anonymousreply 74May 8, 2023 2:01 AM

King Charles has never been highly uptight. William is though

by Anonymousreply 76May 8, 2023 2:10 AM

r79 In the royal box with Prince Andrew.Reported on in numerous tabloids.

by Anonymousreply 77May 8, 2023 2:15 AM

r72 yes, Ben is married to Winwood's daughter. Charles and Camilla were at their wedding several years ago, so they have met Winwood.

I think they were going for a light musical vibe, they didn't want a lot of loud rock music. Charles was never a rock or pop fan, that was Diana mostly.

by Anonymousreply 78May 8, 2023 2:26 AM

The hologram artists were the real hit of the night. The audience exploded when the blue whale appeared in the sky.

What's with George? He sat sunk in his seat most of the night barely paying attention. HRH PC kept trying to get some life out of him but failed, even when their father came onstage.

by Anonymousreply 79May 8, 2023 4:15 PM

What's with George? ^^^

He's 9. And like every other child his age, has never heard of Take That, Lionel Richie. Steve Winwood or even the Muppets. Everyone older than him has never heard of the rest of the line-up

Katy Perry may have resonated with a girl the same age as him, but even that is highly unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 80May 8, 2023 9:44 PM

George may have a thing for divas.

by Anonymousreply 81May 8, 2023 10:41 PM

According to what William told some random strangers on one of his public walkabouts this weekend, George is into AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, musically.

by Anonymousreply 82May 8, 2023 11:09 PM

R80, my point was that he didn't sit up even to watch his father, even when Charlotte elbowed him. Surely he has heard of Prince William?

Charlotte was singing along with Katy Perry's first number, so you're right about a girl that age being into it. Mind you, she seemed alert all night and conscious of the excitement of the occasion itself. George may have been sulking, but he just looked signed-out. I suppose he could have been tired after the strain of his role in the Coronation.

by Anonymousreply 84May 9, 2023 1:01 AM

For a gay Prince Edward dances very badly.

by Anonymousreply 85May 9, 2023 2:40 AM

Meghan Markle butt hurt, fat and tuning in from her bed. ^^^^^
