Eldergays, tell us about Richard Cox

Actor Cruising, Looking for Richard, TV shows and theatre...He seems to be one of America's most underrated actors, however I've read that he was the "smuggest actor" in the business (New York magazine). Could you share what you know about him, as an actor and as a human being ?

Go away frau troll. I'm sure there's a blog somewhere that had fun recipes for making granola with your kids. Or whatever bored fraus like doing with their kids to teach them religious zealotry.

(R2) : When I think It's only the beginning of your stupidities, aggressiveness and aberrations in these thread.....

by Anonymousreply 3March 10, 2018 6:45 PM

Posting questions or threads on DL is scary because there are a lot of verbal violence and cynicism, I don't understand that kind of reaction. It's very hard to find people with a "good head" on their shoulders. Anyway, I like what I read here, because I don't think we've heard certain rumours outside of DL.

HELL I BAN THE NEGATIVE BITCHES ASAP

WOKE!

by Anonymousreply 6March 11, 2018 3:55 AM

Is Richard Cox barely known and that's why no one has anything to say about him ? (not even eldergays).

by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2018 1:03 PM

Wasn't he on the soap Loving? I always remember thinking he has a face for stage...only.

by Anonymousreply 10March 18, 2018 6:17 PM

He dated Kathryn Harrold in the 70's.

by Anonymousreply 11March 18, 2018 6:18 PM

Exact : he was on the soap LOVING (1983-1985). I think many people thought, like you, he hasn't a movie face because his only "big movie" was Cruising in 1980.

by Anonymousreply 12March 18, 2018 6:22 PM

Was he a great theatre actor ? Did he made in Broadway ?

by Anonymousreply 13March 18, 2018 6:42 PM

R10 He was on Loving for close to a year. He played Giff Bowman, Casey Bowman (Paul Anthony Stewart) father. His character turned into a psycho and was killed off.

by Anonymousreply 14March 18, 2018 6:44 PM

Did he quaff of the peen?

by Anonymousreply 15March 18, 2018 6:44 PM

(R15) : I've read on another thread that he was "gay in real life", I don't know if it's true or not because we have no precisions and no records about him....

Never heard of him but what an unfortunate name, Dick Cox.

by Anonymousreply 17March 18, 2018 7:26 PM

Only name more unfortunate would be Richard Whiskey.

by Anonymousreply 18March 18, 2018 7:27 PM

His last name is really Zuckerman.

He is one of those men who looked better the older they get.

(R16) I enjoy reading the DL, it's my favourite website, but do you think that people who make such statements are sure of what they say, I mean do they have reliable informations ? (it's just a naive question, not an affirmation).

by Anonymousreply 20March 18, 2018 7:57 PM

He can do what he wants, he's barely known...

by Anonymousreply 25March 18, 2018 10:37 PM

I've seen on few threads red sentences like (# fan girls ), does anyone know what is it and where does it come from ?

by Anonymousreply 26March 18, 2018 10:57 PM

(R10) : I agree with you, however James Woods as a significant filmography and he has not a "classic movie face". I've always found him very sexy and attractive.

(R15/R16) : What signs though ?

by Anonymousreply 35March 25, 2018 10:58 PM

I saw Richard Cox on Broadway as the narrator in Blood Brothers, alongside Petula Clark and the Cassidy brothers. He was very good. That was about 22 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 36March 26, 2018 11:49 AM

Is Richard Cox an actor well known in the USA, or is he not at all, like I read it on another thread "he is barely known, only to his mother"!!!??

by Anonymousreply 37March 31, 2018 11:53 AM

He's one of those actors who many will recognize the face of, because he's been a guest star in so many things, but probably don't know the name of.

I just saw him in Zombie High, a bad horror movie that happened to be on the Shout Channel. He was very 80s handsome, like Michael Ontkean.

by Anonymousreply 38March 31, 2018 12:09 PM

I've always been perplexed because I've read on another thread that R.Cox was gay in real life, but he dated Kathryn Harold in the 70s and he married Joanna Heimbold in 1994 (then he divorced). So how can he be gay in reality ?

by Anonymousreply 41March 31, 2018 3:05 PM

Gays marry and date women all the time. That is nothing new.

by Anonymousreply 42March 31, 2018 3:09 PM

(R42) You are absolutely right. But to me it's a strange way of being gay ; If I read the definition of Gay or Homosexual it's not written "men who married or dated persons of the opposite sex". I don't see the interest of dating women when you're a gay man, which means that you desire and want to live with men...

by Anonymousreply 43March 31, 2018 4:42 PM

[quote] however I've read that he was the "smuggest actor" in the business (New York magazine).

I challenge that assessment!

by Anonymousreply 44March 31, 2018 4:46 PM

(R42),(R43) Above all what do these women expect from a marriage to a gay man and mostly, are they satisfied of their wedded life when these women are straight ?

by Anonymousreply 45March 31, 2018 4:57 PM

(R44) At least, I am honest : I don't date women, I don't marry women...and I have no children (not even through surrogacy). Not so BAD...

by Anonymousreply 46March 31, 2018 5:29 PM

Richard Cox was the real name of Dick Sargent

by Anonymousreply 48March 31, 2018 6:02 PM

Is it a pesky rumour (R41) ? Because you have to know that most straight people don't even think who is gay or not and they always wonder how the Datalounge know about celebrities gayness, and by the way they don't know how the closet works.

by Anonymousreply 49March 31, 2018 7:35 PM

Are there Dataloungers who ever met him or date him (in the 70s, 80s, 90s...) ?

by Anonymousreply 50March 31, 2018 9:33 PM

What signs do you have to notice when an actor is gay ?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 51April 1, 2018 2:42 PM

After the movie Cruising (1980), did Richard Cox was a "fantasy" for gay people ? Did they dream of him (like they have had a crush on Keenu Reeves or Tom Selleck for exemple) or were they completely indifferent ?

by Anonymousreply 52April 1, 2018 7:22 PM

Just a candid DL question : why do most gay actors end up with a woman ?...

by Anonymousreply 53April 1, 2018 10:53 PM

(R16) (R49) I can imagine it's very hard to succeed in hollywood , but if there are not any gay gossips about R.Cox's relationships on DL, it's only because he is not famous, most people never heard about him, not even "eldergays"... His only important movie was Cruising (39 years ago) ; you can't compare his filmography with a big celebrity like Kevin Spacey who is worldly known. That's why we know so much about Spacey's private life on DL, since many years, and almost nothing about R.Cox (and it doesn't mean that R.Cox is not talented). That's life...

by Anonymousreply 54April 7, 2018 12:39 PM

(R54) : That's why gays are jealous of me!!!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55April 7, 2018 9:10 PM

So, just for the record, does anyone can tell us if Richard Cox is gay, bi or straight ? Because regarding Kevin Spacey we've got the answer...since many years.

by Anonymousreply 56April 8, 2018 7:30 PM

He is not going to come out at 70 years old...!!!

by Anonymousreply 57April 14, 2018 3:16 PM

[quote]I've read that he was the "smuggest actor" in the business

It was a common trait for the time period. Richard Dreyfuss, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and Andy Kaufman were also known for being Artists Suffering Among Idiots. Now, this was peak cocaine time, so the artist may have been suffering from his own abuse or dealing with a cast and crew hoovering up the booger sugar.

As far as Dick Cox being gay? His face is too annoying for me to care about his dick. I've worked with plenty of beautiful dicks attached to miserable addicts/schizophrenics/assholes.

by Anonymousreply 58April 14, 2018 3:40 PM

If I well understand (R58) nobody cares about him nor in the 80s, 90s etc...He is not a major actor in the industry. And he wasn't a "fantasy" for gay men!!!??? Then it's exactly what I've read on another thread "R.Cox is barely known, even to his mother".

by Anonymousreply 59April 14, 2018 5:43 PM

Someone here must know Dick Cox

by Anonymousreply 60April 14, 2018 7:22 PM

I think Richard Cox had a full-frontal scene in the Broadway musical flop "Platinum"; I think I recall reading that he emerged from an on-stage jacuzzi or something like that. No further descriptions of the scene or Mr. Cox though that I'm aware of. But who doesn't love a Lisa Mordente musical?

by Anonymousreply 61April 14, 2018 7:31 PM

As regards to his Smugness (R58) : he also is graduated from Yale (MBA Anthropology), he has always been a "daddy's boy", which means, even if he never succeeded as a movie star-actor (like Harrison FORD, Al PACINO, Kevin SPACEY etc...), it wasn't a big problem because he is very, very rich... Maybe that's he origin, and the beginning, of his smugness.

On another hand, I always wonder, how people on DL know when a celebrity (or not in that case) is gay or straight ? However, when the actor is not famous, like R.Cox, they give up the "secret information" ( "R.Cox the actor who played the Columbia student in Cruising is gay in real life" ) and nothing else...SILENT ZONE...Why ?

by Anonymousreply 62April 14, 2018 7:48 PM

Because I am ancient, I actually remember Richard Cox from the late 60s soap [italic]Love of Life.[/italic] He popped up in guest shots in lots of TV dramas in the 70s, then had a starring role in the late 70s syndicated ensemble drama [italic]Executive Suite,[/italic] which was billed as the first nighttime soap opera. God, I loved that trashy show--such gorgeous actors, most of them very talented as well as purty. Most recently I saw him in an early episode of TNT's [italic]Leverage,[/italic] where he played a sleazy, corrupt Erik Prince type.

He's quite a good actor, and not nearly as annoying as his very short, very obnoxious contemporary, Dennis Boutsikaris.

by Anonymousreply 64April 15, 2018 12:56 AM

He looks like Bobby Jindal's older, nonloser brother.

by Anonymousreply 65April 15, 2018 12:58 AM

It's not very flattering for R.Cox (R65)...

by Anonymousreply 66April 15, 2018 10:42 AM

(R64) : Did you like the movie CRUISING in 1980 ? At that time, or later, did you heard any gossips about his "gay relationships" ?

by Anonymousreply 67April 15, 2018 10:50 AM

Do you think there will be an OP "Is Richard Cox gay ?" like the OP about John Goodman "Is John Goodman gay ?"...And by the way, they both played in the TV show ALPHA HOUSE (produced and realised by Amazon).

by Anonymousreply 68April 15, 2018 6:00 PM

Actors, scriptwriters, film directors etc....have worked with him (on TV and Cinema) and nobody says anything about him, while everybody in the film industry published several stories, on DL, regarding Hugh Jackman, Kevin Spacey, Tom Cruise, John Goodman and so many other actors.

by Anonymousreply 69April 15, 2018 10:52 PM

(R58) Not only smug, but he is tactless, he said to Al Pacino (in Looking for Richard) that "he refused to play in a French TV show because he preferred to play Richard III on stage in Milwaukee".....

France, and Europe, means nothing to him. OK. But hardly anybody in AMERICA knows who is Richard Cox!!!!

by Anonymousreply 70April 21, 2018 12:02 PM

It's to say how much he was indispensable as an "actor".

He is unknown, I should say Invisible, even to spiteful gossips (so we can judge his point of popularity!). For sure, he has never been a Kevin Spacey or Hugh Jackman...

As for his "gayness", if he is married, he is a closeted case. It also is a question of generation because he was born in 1948. What did you expect ?

by Anonymousreply 71April 21, 2018 12:10 PM

Closeted gay men marry women. Then, we don't expect anything....

by Anonymousreply 72April 21, 2018 5:06 PM

Was there any evidence to him actually being gay ? (except in the Cruising 1980 Thread).

by Anonymousreply 73April 21, 2018 5:34 PM

(R73) : NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE.......

(R76) : "alt right", "minion", "shit stir" : No wonder you are INSANE.

We are in 2018 and people are still watching movies of Pier Paolo PASOLINI (70's), Luis BUNUEL(50's and 6O's), Rainer Werner FASSBINDER (70's and 80's) etc... and no one is trying to "shit stir". Maybe you don't know who they are because you seem uneducated. Actors who played in that kind of picture (called CHEF D'OEUVRE) or have been directed by the filmmakers I mentioned, are able to understand what I mean.

Anyway, you are very agressive since the beginning of this thread, you should wonder why. It's becoming very bizarre. Your aggressiveness is not comprehending so you should stop posting on this thread but, maybe you are masochiste and you should stay in a mental hospital.
