How did this short, plump, unattractive gal become a major film star of the 1970s? How did she get cast in Saturday Night Fever? What did John Travolta think of her? Any gossip?

When was this woman ever a major film star?

How did she get cast in SNF?
Cute face, big tits.

That’s Donna Pescow, star of TV's "Angie", thus she was never a film star.

She was as much as of a major film star as Karen Gorney.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 27, 2022 12:21 AM |
She did 5 "Love Boats", 2 "Fantasy Islands", 3 "Hotels," but NO "Murder She Wrotes."
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 27, 2022 12:25 AM |
She looked like Farrah Fawcett next to Karen Lynn Gorney.

One should also mention that she appeared in an episode or two of The Sopranos.

I remember one of my VERY hetero brothers watching her on Angie ca. 1979 and him saying- She's a piece of ASS.

For about two minutes in the late '70s, America was infatuated with earthy Italians from New York City. Travolta, Pescow...

R9- Deniro ( even though he's only 1/4 Italian) and Al Pacino.

The closest thing to Donna Pescow as a film star was Brenda Vaccaro and even she wound up doing a gravel voiced tampon commercials.
I got to tell you those talking tampons really freaked me out.

I had to get my first pair of eyeglasses in 1978 when I was 11. The optometrist’s assistant had that late ‘70s / Son of Sam victim / Brooklyn babe / early Bartiromo vibe: glossy feathered hair, strappy sandals, silky mauve blouse, big tits. I whispered to my father that she looked like Donna Pescow. My father told me to tell her. I did…and she was thrilled. Donna was hot shit for a New York minute.

Her performance in SNF was worthy of an Oscar. She was perfect in that.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 27, 2022 1:22 AM |
She had the perfect face for that role. Who wouldn't have cast her?
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 27, 2022 1:28 AM |
Donna did everything John Travolta did but backwards and in heels.

Plus she was Shia LeBoufs mom on that kids show in the 90’s. I think It was Even Steven’s or something like that.

But she played and read as Italian. That was the only important thing in the late '70s, a magical time of roller disco and hair that was feathered line the wings of a magnificent bird.

Several of the actors who played Italians in Saturday Night Fever were Jewish.

She was hardly short, 5'10" for a woman is not short.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 27, 2022 3:36 PM |
She was attractive in a 1970s kind of way
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 27, 2022 3:38 PM |
Donna was a hot fuck in the back seat...
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 27, 2022 3:44 PM |
I thought Donna was out of this world!

R22- Not only is 5 ft 10 in for a woman not short it's TALL.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 27, 2022 3:59 PM |
She's 5' 1" (5' 3" wearing a spiffy beret).

She was on General Hospital in the early-2000s.

I read years ago that for her role in Saturday Night Fever she had to gain a considerable amount of weight and relearn her New York accent.

I guess outer borough Jews and Italians read very similar to Flyoverstanis back in the 70s and 80s, R19
Funny how the stereotypes have changed since then--the Friends did not read Italian (though I have been shocked at how many DLers did not realize that Aniston's character on Friends was pretty much every Jewish Princess Stereotype Ever all mashed into one person.)

^^Obviously Joey did. But contrast him with Ross, Rachel and Monica

I remember seeing her show at Studio One back in the 80's.

Donna Pescow is 5'1", according to IMDb. Watch her in anything she ever did and you will see she is very short. Everybody else towers over her.

This is such a good scene. Donna is very good in this movie. I really feel sorry for her character in this scene and movie.
Another thing. She was a bit chunky in this movie but pretty too.

Annette was going places compared to this girl. She's PATHETIC. Something about her reminds me of the gay scene. Some young queen DROOLING over the HOT guy.

R35 Doreen was played by Denny Dillon, a cast member of arguably one of the weakest ensembles of SNL, although there have been a lot of bad ensembles.

She could dance! Karen Gorney got cast due to Stigwood’s nephew.

Donna was the runner up at the 1977 NYFC awards for best supporting actress. She should’ve been nominated over Quinn Cummings or the god awful Leslie BrownE
