Dylan Mulvaney auditioning for Cabaret on Broadway!!

After announcing earlier this week on social media he is a bottom---a question no one asked---Dylan Mulvaney now wants the role of Sally Bowles!! The role has previously been famously played by Liza Minelli, Michelle Williams, Emma Stone and Sienna Miller. Clearly the producers are now scraping the bottom of the barrel. No word yet on which organization plans to protests the show first.

Thousands of talented people just dying to to do this part living hand to mouth and this is what we get. You know it's all about selling tickets and asses in seats, The quality of the show is irrelevant . I'm so done with Broadway. I used to be so deeply involved in the industry but the woke garbage and hypocrisy has really turned me away. Not a thing I'd spend a nickel on to see right now. They have had enough of my money. I would not invest in this dreck.

No way. I saw Dylan live at Miscast and was only mildly amused. Everyone else killed it.

It's unbelievable that more experienced people could get passed over instead for MC or Sally. I like the few clips of Mason Alexander Park as MC. I was really looking forward to Mason or someone else.

The other way around. Mary Martin was on Broadway and in a TV broadcast (1954-1955), and then again five years later in a TV movie (1960). Sandy Duncan appeared on Broadway from1979-1981 nearly 20 years after Mary’s TV performance.

R14 A good point. As a child I recall seeing a performance of Peter Pan with a woman in the leading role. No one complained about a woman taking a part off a man, nor did they heap transphobic abuse on said actress. Everyone was sensible about it and saw it for what it was... acting.

Yet there's a single rumour about Dylan Mulvaney auditioning for a female role and the internet loses its shit. The same people who complain about the liberals taking over, extol the virtues of the nuclear family and marriage being between one man and one woman while simultaneously complaining that they're being silenced.

How said school of thought gets any traction on this -- a primarly gay site -- is anyone's guess.

I hope the producers know that if they fire Dylan for any reason, they must coddle him and check in on him to see if he is okay, or he will complain on social media. Based on the clip at R27, Dylan is not a great singer. Not sure about the acting ability, but based on the Dylan persona that’s been on display , it seems to be fairly limited — and annoying. Not sure what is appealing about having Sally interpreted by Dylan.

Many people swallow it because they lack critical thinking skills themselves and simply don't question claims being made. There are enough tourists who still want to see Chicago? Like the Asian tourists who kept Oh Calcutta running for years.

I guess like somebody said there is no more NY audience for Broadway musicals. You start out with the bridge and tunnel crowd and then hope for tourists farther afield. I wonder when the last ladies' theater party was sold.

I disagree with there are “thousands of talented people etc. etc.” Not so. In NYC, I’d say there are maybe about 700 Broadway level talents for one role or another and only about 80 who could carry a show (talent-wise) as the lead. I’ve been to hundreds of auditions. There isn’t as much talent out there as you think. On the subject, doesn’t Dylan have a BFA? Doesn’t mean she has Bway level talent but an audition shouldn’t be out of the question.

Every Little Step, the documentary about the revival of ACL, proves the talent pool has been dwindling for years. Rachelle Rak's audition for Sheila was embarrassing then they ended up casting Deirdre Goodwin who was even more embarrassing. Charlotte and DL fave Natascia Diaz for the plum role of Cassie? That's it? And Bob Avian crying during that terrible Paul audition was a joke. So I would say Dylan has a shot at playing Blanche duBois if they want to.
