Just concern trolling and negative articles galore. The commentators are mostly smart and funny, but otherwise it’s such crap.

Poor Boris didn’t get 24-7 sunshine in the news.
The same things can be said about Fox News.

Salon is worse. They have that psychobitch Amanda Marcotte. I don’t think I can name a slate columnist outside of Dear PrudenceZ

I don't hate it, but I think your description of it is accurate.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 17, 2020 6:49 PM |
I don't hate Slate, but they are slipping compared to what they were. At least their articles aren't retreads of Reddit threads.

Does anyone hate Slate magazine more than OP?
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 17, 2020 6:54 PM |
Salon is the one that published an excuse article by some heterosexual pedophile.
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 17, 2020 6:55 PM |
Yes. I remember reading an article (someone else may remember this as well) that literally, actually, in letter-on-the-page advocated that gay men should feel a responsibility to themselves to try heterosexual sex and condemned as shamefully small minded. I'll never forget it. I said to myself at the moment I realized it wasn't a joke that I would never support Slate EVER.
I do actually listen to the Slate "Political Gabfest" podcast each week, but I always laugh when they encourage the listener to become a "slate plus" member to support the site. LOL hell no.

I don’t hate them anymore, since I stopped reading. Also gave up Gawker before its demise.
All good things turn bad eventually.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 17, 2020 7:34 PM |
I’m going to have to give up going there. Once I stopped going to Gawker and all those sites back in the day I never missed them. It’s just habit for me now to visit Slate.

I miss the Slate that published pieces like this (part of a series on the end of the universe):

My problem with Slate is 90 percent of the articles are just so dull and predictable. Nothing truly thought provoking or unique. Their Dear Prudence ESTs are occasionally amusing however, particularly when the gullible commenters take the questions seriously , : " One of my two polygamous husbears ,who is also my cousin, fed our adopted child Indian food and I'm having a meltdown! " is a typical Slate advice column amalgamation.

R9 r10 I dumped Gawker when they became too sanctimonious. They were fun as a gossip site but the high horse tone from a bunch of cooked up hipsters grew dreary.
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2020 8:06 PM |
Actually r13 it was jezebel that finally pushed me away. Jesus was that site a piece of shit. So I just dumped all of them

r14 Lindy West (and her writing style) were insufferable. I'm not sure how she's been successful.

I’m with you, OP. I only like Dahlia’s pieces.

R3 is right about Salon. From today.

I got tired of Slate/Salon/Politico//Daily Beast pretty quickly. Give me a solid traditional newspaper any day.

Don't you bring me any bad news! Life is only what I want it to be!

We're in a pandemic and they still won't get on board with pot legalization? What gives?
