do you were makeup (obviously no drag queens not included).

I've been friends with this much older gay couple for years. We get together every month or two for a platonic dinner.

The last time we met, they both looked, they looked good different? After a bit of cajoling on my part, they admitted that they had started to wearing eyebrow pencil. It made a huge difference, because of their age they had lost their eyebrows and the eyebrow makeup made a difference and it was no way noticeably as makeup.

And before you, DL queens go apeshit that men wearing a little makeup makes you a pathic dumb stupid queen, i say why not?

I'm not there yet age wise but seeing how using one piece of makeup made such a difference, if and when I need it I will have no problem using it.

What say you Dl hive mine?

Oh, my God, that's my mascara.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 3May 4, 2018 4:51 AM

I don't but I might in future. My straight brother wears makeup and dyes his hair.

by Anonymousreply 4May 4, 2018 4:54 AM

Yup, like your friends I wear eyebrow pencil sometimes. Looks good if I do it the right way. A reminder for me to start again tomorrow!

by Anonymousreply 5May 4, 2018 4:55 AM

I don't, but a couple guys I know with dark circles, use concealer.

by Anonymousreply 6May 4, 2018 4:57 AM

I cannot stand having grey hair so therefore I dye it. Makes me look younger. And happy.

by Anonymousreply 7May 4, 2018 4:57 AM

clear mascara and some bronzer. So - yes, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 8May 4, 2018 5:01 AM

Tinted lip balm to enhance my gorgeous lips, which always have an added complemented of a spritz of Listerine breath spray - just for you.

I have dark circles (like many of Lithuanian descent). If I have to go to a pitch meeting? I do wear very concealer. But just a little.

by Anonymousreply 15May 4, 2018 5:18 AM

At least he got cajole right and didn’t say “cagole”.

Ok, No no no. Don’t waste time filling in your brows like the dummy on you tube. Get something called microblading where they will do a beautiful, natural job and you might have to go only twice a year. At our age, ladies and gents, we have the cash. And you won’t look stupid. And imagine doing all this with glasses. And always get your hair dyed professionally, you will never get it right, seriously.

If you get sick of touching it up, go total ash blonde silver, like I did. Changed my life. You can also get very mild microblading as eyebrow pencil. And even to highlight lips naturally.

You want to be naturally gorgeous, right?

by Anonymousreply 16May 4, 2018 5:18 AM

Peoples, my Mens and my Womens, listen up!

Whatever y'all do, DO NOT pluck / shave your inner brows beyond the vertical line of the outer tip of your nose. Otherwise, y'all will just end up looking like white trash.

r3 - yes I know. I'm drunk DL'ing, so fuck grammar and sentence structure it is an occupational booze hazard.

you grammar queens know exactly what I'm trying to convey. the "oh dear" queens are tiresome and done. no one cares, we know there are grammatical errors. but you also know what I'm trying to say

r14 yeah, I proofread when I'm not drunk, however, I'm drunk. so get back to my original question, "do you wear makeup"?

by Anonymousreply 18May 4, 2018 5:24 AM

Pathic? pathetic? Not empathetic, right? Oh Dear!!!

by Anonymousreply 19May 4, 2018 5:26 AM

My silver hair lady dyes my thick eyebrows to match the silver. You could do that too. She knows how to microblade as well. Has the Japanese touch. She’s amazing.

by Anonymousreply 20May 4, 2018 5:28 AM

Men who wear makeup look like women.

You may think it's subtle, but people can tell.

There is something "off" about a man with makeup that the eye detects immediately.

If you don't mind looking like a woman, then fine. Go for it. But just don't think you are fooling anyone.

by Anonymousreply 21May 4, 2018 5:29 AM

Long curly grey brows look horrendous. That’s why you must go to a professional. I can immediately tell when a man has even a little bit of makeup on. Also get your ears and nostrils waxed regularly. Or you will pick up an accordion and start dancing the polka.

Tanner and bronzer will make you look like Trump. Lip gloss(plain) is ok.

by Anonymousreply 22May 4, 2018 5:34 AM

They tattoo hairlines now too!!

R17, please email Colto with that advice.

by Anonymousreply 24May 4, 2018 5:34 AM

R22, never gloss, only matte. The shine gives you away.

by Anonymousreply 25May 4, 2018 5:35 AM

R21 They're not trying to look like women. More and more men are dabbling with make-up, dye, etc. these days. Unless it's badly done most people really don't care. Especially compared to some of the tats and piercings out there these days.

by Anonymousreply 26May 4, 2018 5:35 AM

Did you know that the most difficult look to achieve in makeup is the “natural” one? Takes ages and ages. And that’s with practice.

You may not want to look like a woman but you will look desperate with bad makeup and it will be funny. People always whisper about the poor old guy trying to look young. Tats and piercings are not for my “oh Dear” crowd. But I could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 27May 4, 2018 5:41 AM

If you google image before and after men’s makeup/microblading/semipermanent makeup you can see the good and the bad. To me, the brows should be asymmetrical and not hard edged, more feathered and lighter at the tips. Some look too stenciled on. I would definitely experiment at home first. A picture is better than a mirror, so take selfies. It’s harder to be objective in front of the mirror. I wouldn’t go the tattoo route, but if you do, research the person’s work, ask around, find someone reputable.

by Anonymousreply 28May 4, 2018 5:44 AM

R21 & r27 are absolutely correct.

by Anonymousreply 30May 4, 2018 5:46 AM

Well, then every newscaster/anchor from Anderson to the local weatherman must look “off”. Cawz gess whut hon, they’re all wearing THE MAKEUP.

by Anonymousreply 31May 4, 2018 5:50 AM

I use a little concealer, but no one has ever noticed. Believe me, my family would have said something if they thought I was wearing any.

by Anonymousreply 32May 4, 2018 5:53 AM

I think it’s worth a trip to LA because the best microbladers are here. It’s like $800 each time.

Newscasters have special makeup for the studio lights. In normal light, it’s cakey and orange. Without makeup they would get washed out. Same with theater and opera. Those 5D TVs unfortunately show every pore and line.

by Anonymousreply 33May 4, 2018 5:55 AM

R27 Nope. Only if the people are too critical and gossipy. If you really want to do something, go for it!

by Anonymousreply 34May 4, 2018 6:01 AM

I use mattifier on my forehead and nose because I have very oily skin. I don't think that counts as make-up though.

If you want to wear make-up and it makes you feel good, that is your choice, it's your face.

by Anonymousreply 35May 4, 2018 6:14 AM

Exactly r35, it’s 2018. Why be afraid?

by Anonymousreply 36May 4, 2018 6:16 AM

I'm a ginger with really fair and sparse eyebrows. Will microblading help? Or should I just use some powder to fill them in a bit?

by Anonymousreply 37May 4, 2018 6:26 AM

Powder is difficult to apply and it flakes. You can unconsciously rub it off and be on the lookout for touch ups which I find are a huge pain in the neck. You could dye the eyebrows and supplement by microblading. No need for powder getting in your eyes and the other hassles eye makeup cau

by Anonymousreply 38May 4, 2018 6:32 AM

Sorry, don’t know what I did there. I was saying that I wear contacts and eye makeup flakes and always gets in the eyeballs. I also want to scratch my face when I want to scratch it and I don’t like stuff that will get wiped off. Plus a lot of these powders and things make me sneeze and even lipstick is hard to keep on when that happens. Perhaps guyliner will outline your eyes and give definition to your face.

I would try it before making any commitments. Eyelashes can be dyed and permed too.

by Anonymousreply 40May 4, 2018 6:38 AM

You always tell when a man shapes his brows. Invariably, they go for an arch. They look stenciled. Compared to all the straight men around them.

Make-up a man can apply safely:

1 - Trimming long old-man eyebrows by focusing only on the LONG hairs. Not trimming the whole brow. 2 - Light reflecting concealer on a dark circle. Sparingly, you don't get rid of all the darkness and blend, blend, blend. 3 - Lip balm. Not tinted unless you can find one a color that won't darken the lips and won't stand out. Even then, just near the mouth line and clear balm for the rest. 4 - Oddly, eyelash tint on the tips of the lashes. Don't cover the entire lash or curl the lash.

What makes a huge difference

1- Cosmetic dentistry 2 - Excercise 3 - Light tanning (special occasions only) 4 - Well-dressed in a conservative way. Something either a gay or a straight could wear. 5 - Skincare 6 - Latisse for eyelashes. They make your lashes longer and thicker but in the same shape as always. This makes a huge difference with mascara & is better than the lash tint tip above.

by Anonymousreply 42May 4, 2018 7:13 AM

R37(Ginger) Try a very light eyeliner pencil. I’ve had my eyeliner microbladed on. It’s very light. Needs touch ups here and there. But mornings are a breeze and I don’t look like a total dog after I go for a run or something.

by Anonymousreply 43May 4, 2018 7:14 AM

Concealer, eyebrow gel, mascara, lipstick/rouge, mattifer... used quite subtly and looks natural. Skeptics: you've never seen me and can't comment.

by Anonymousreply 44May 4, 2018 7:26 AM

If your eyelashes are too light, I don’t think Latisse will darken them. You will end up with long, fluttery, too light lashes. Blonde women have always dyed their lashes. I get mine permed by the same Japanese girl and they look very natural, long and no thousand dollar bills for Latisse. I have noted a couple of grey lashes. God help me when my lashes go grey.

Btw, this is a bit indelicate but it’s routine for men in LA to get their nether lands waxed. Everything off.

by Anonymousreply 45May 4, 2018 7:27 AM

It is truly not my intention to offend, because frankly I think that certain men, such as Adam Rippon look quite lovely/handsome in judiciously applied makeup. If you are a femme-ish sort and you own that, makeup can enhance and beautify a man as effectively as it does a woman. And the great part is, today there are no rules. Men are "allowed" to do whatever they damn want.

Now, having said that, I have a tip for any of the dude bros here who would prefer staying unclockable by the no-nothing masses.

Lip gloss, even clear. and over groomed brows are the 20- teens version of 1966's ascots, caftans and pink blouses(yes, I know, pink blouses turned masculine and cool in the 70's.)

I had 80% of the ATL Falcon's offense in F/C on my flight from ATL to LAS for a sports trade show in 1998. It was the first time I ever saw tinted lip gloss on a man...especially a man who happened to be a professional athlete. And his brows were oh so perfect.

Now, I wouldn't look twice, but at the end of the twentieth century is was almost shocking to us females in the crew. He also had on a candy pink Kangol furry bucket hat, but I'll leave that for another day.

From that night on, I have associated brows and lips as the sure-fire identifier of men of a "certain sort." to quote my Aunt Bunny.

OP here. I'm a guy, and not ugly as suggested - btw this is such a typical DL response. I typed something inebriated and then couldn't correct it because of the way this site is set up. So those inclined to hate me, go all you want. It is an anonymous forum so it doesn't to me.

R62 Clinique bronzer was my late father's secret trick for looking more robust and healthy than he was in his eighties.

It really is great stuff, and it is virtually undetectable. It gives you a true approximation of a sunkissed look....no orangey appearance like self tanner produces. Here's another tip" buy the ladies' gel in a tube blush in a ruddy tone(as apposed to a mauve-ish one) and them very lightly highlight the tip of your nose and the apples of your cheeks and the high center of your forehead. These areas are exactly where the sun would make you just a bit pink, so it heightens the "just spent a week in Barbados" look. Or the "I just came off the slopes of Park City" look.

by Anonymousreply 69May 5, 2018 7:47 AM

I couldn't find the "ladies' gel in a tube blush" by that description @ The Clinicque website. Can you be any more specific, Mr Reply 69?

As a guy, my eyebrows are the only area I feel comfortable wearing make up. They are so thin and sparse they're almost invisible. So I use a medium brown color eyebrow pencil and even then sparingly and only at night. To me, I feel it helps a lot.

by Anonymousreply 81May 7, 2018 8:41 AM

Hey guys, R69 here. I am sorry that it took so long for me to address your question about the Clinique blush gel for women.

The center Pixi gel is exactly the shade which I was speaking of(ruddy.) Absolutely stay away from the frosty pinks or corals...that won't do at all.

I was not aware that it was no longer readily available in the Clinique line. It has been a few years since I purchased it. But the Pixi blush pictured looks like an exact duplicate. If you should get it, PLEASE don't freak out when you first squirt it on your finger. Yes, it looks dark as hell, but the moment you apply it to your skin you can barely see it. Just as the bronzer comes out of the tube looking like a rich mahogany, but in fact it is quite subtle on your skin if applied properly. I assume that everyone knows this, but since gel products have no oils whatsoever, they go on much smoother and resist the tendency to look "patchy" on well moisturized skin.

I wish you much success should you choose to try it. Just remember this: you are not approximating the blush of a teenage girl. You are highlighting the areas which the sun leaves you a tad pink after a day at the beach. See my original post for those areas.
