Considering most of you swear on your mother's life that you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, always summer in the South of France, and have the best connections when it comes to anything related to culture and/or commerce, it's downright shocking how many fast food threads pop up here each week. In the past few days alone, there's been one on Taco Bell, one on Subway's new menu, and--it seems this one pops up at least once a month--Arby's. I just find it shocking that so many of you snooty, blue blood aristocrats would darken the doors of such establishments.
From a DL thread on "Forgotten Foods" from 2013, I bring you all The Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood. They've been open since 1919 and actually have the original recipe for Fettucini Alfredo, courtesy of Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford who brought it back with them from their honeymoon in Rome in 1920 (a year after Musso & Frank's opened). Hopefully this will serve as a palate cleanser for all you trust fund gays who've long ago run out of grandmother's money and are slumming it at the Taco Bell right down the road from the trailer park you currently find yourself living in. Enjoy glancing over their classic, mouthwatering menu!

I don't understand why you would go to Taco Bell when you could choose any independent Mexican restaurant.
| by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 16, 2021 12:19 PM |
One does not go to Taco Bell for the Dos Amigos experience. One enjoys Taco Bell for what Taco Bell is.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 16, 2021 12:25 PM |
R1 - because it's fast and cheap. Also, it kind of gives you a kick. In Paris, we had eaten at all kind of places, were exhausted after walking so we went to Shakespeare & Company to sit down, have tea and people-watch. What do you know? An American twink and his hag...we started talking and said, fuck it, we are all tired, have spent the last few days raking up Visa points, and at that point, we just got some Chipotle. Weird thing was how energized I felt. So much so that the next day, I had enough energy to fuck said twink after a four hour walk in a museum.
| by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 16, 2021 12:37 PM |
Also, I tried to have Taco Bell as comfort food out here in Romania but it gives me diarrhea everytime. Oddly, when I get particularly depressed, a cheeseburger and fried from McDonald's are the equivalent of a good joint. I sleep well after. And yes, I do know about fine dining, have some inheritance and a good job but no way in hell am I gonna put on airs like some of these queens. I travel economy, budget, work my butt off and take overtime if I can and shop discounts. I am not above slumming it with the dollar menu and a Coors Light.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 16, 2021 12:43 PM |
There are a LOT of people posting on DL who look exactly like Chrissy Metz OP. That's a cold, hard fact unfortunately. They'll all be dead soon though so there is an upside.
There are also a lot of fast food restaurant shills as well.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 16, 2021 12:50 PM |
Now I want some Belgian fries. My God they’re delicious.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 16, 2021 12:50 PM |
I go to Taco Bell strictly cause they have a drive thru. No Chipotle or any other Mexican joint near me has a drive thru. The fuck is it? You want me to get out of my air conditioned car in 94 degree heat and walk inside, for what, the decor? Fuck outta here.
| by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 16, 2021 12:51 PM |
Exactly R7. Convenience. I run to the mall these days cuz it's the only place with AC around here. Fuck walking in heat and humidity with a 97 degree feel. I don't care what DL says. Work at Starbucks, walk around in the AC, people watch, grab a salad and soup combo for lunch and a smoothie later and work it off walking home when the sun sets. Same in LA...I hate walking even in the parking lot in 104 ffs. Do curbside or stock up or drive through.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 16, 2021 1:04 PM |
It’s called SLUMMING, OP! Everyone is doing it!
| by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 16, 2021 1:15 PM |
R7 so your reasoning behind not wanting to leave your car and wait for 10 minutes is because it's too tiresome? Can I take a guess at how pudgy you are?
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 16, 2021 2:29 PM |
Thank you OP, this is something I have noticed for a long time. This promotion for junk food and fast food that is ultra harmful to health makes me think that Americans are truly unrecoverable, toxic and stupid. Sometimes I wonder if it's not posts coming from the PR of some junk food brands...Oh wait!
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 16, 2021 2:36 PM |
Fast food is merely a guilty pleasure. As long as one isn’t eating it daily, what is the harm?
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 16, 2021 3:29 PM |
I only summer in the south of France. I only dine at McDonald’s in the south of France.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 16, 2021 5:26 PM |
I seriously think a lot of the fast food and “oh my god, a new Doritos flavor!” threads are just PR trolls for those companies. I mean DL, has a pretty high number of daily unique visitors, right? It’s cheap online marketing.

[quote] most of you swear on your mother's life that you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, always summer in the South of France, and have the best connections when it comes to anything related to culture and/or commerce,
Which Datalounge do you frequent OP?
The one I spend time on is full of guys talking about their white trash backgrounds in Darkest Flyoverstan and current rainbow collar cube farm jobs surrounded by "fraus"
That's when they're not posting about "things that are declassé" which one need not be Freud or Jung to understand are really threads about "here are things my white trash friends and family do which I find distasteful."
Or the fashion threads which invariably involve debates over whether it's worth it to spend $40 on real pleated Dockers at JC Penney or just go for the $20 knockoffs at Walmart.
We must post at different times of day or something.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 16, 2021 6:41 PM |
^^And let's not forget the travel threads where a trip to Disney World's Epcot is the same thing as a trip to Italy or France.
Personally, I find the stories of what it was like to grow up working class in middle America in the middle of the previous century to be fascinating. DLers have such incredibly memories for details that it's like reading a really well written history book. Especially since many of them still subscribe to the petty bigotry around various white ethnics (Irish, Italians, Jews) that was still alive and well 60 years ago.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 16, 2021 6:45 PM |
Those of you who are fit and healthy and eat a very healthy diet, do you ever indulge in fast food, pizza, junk food and, if so, how often? I’m truly interested.
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 16, 2021 6:51 PM |
Musso and Frank's still uses canned peas as a vegetable. It's like 1919 was yesterday.

My favorite item is the cheese sauce.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 16, 2021 7:13 PM |
Sometimes R18 but always in moderation.
Not fast food--it makes me ill-- but definitely desserts like ice cream and brownies and I will eat pizza and mac and cheese and things like that, but not very often and not in vast amounts.
The thing is, I don't crave it the way some people seem to--never have--and so if I have a small cup of ice cream I'm content.
I assume people who never eat anything unhealthy feel they have some sort of addiction, that one spoonful of ice cream will lead to them consuming an entire pint.
| by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 16, 2021 8:11 PM |
R18 - pre-COVID and in my normal routine in LA, I had a six pack and ate healthy. I indulged either by counting calories and taking nutrients into consideration. I didn't 100% deny myself anything but I was mindful that if I had a bean burrito at lunch, I would do a light salad or clear soup at dinner with some lean protein. I also had cheat days...which meant one big meal but not 3. Also, I hate all sweets so...
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 16, 2021 8:16 PM |
OP what’s your obsession with unnecessary apostrophes?
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 16, 2021 8:17 PM |
[quote]I just find it shocking that so many of you snooty, blue blood aristocrats would darken the doors of such establishments.
You'd have to cross-reference the "I have 5 million in my IRA and own four large homes" posters with the fast food posters to be able to know if this was true or not.
I know there have been times when I've gone into a thread that's been really interesting and been shocked to see no one was on ignore, because the interesting people weren't the same people as the trolls I'd blocked. While I personally think most of the rich people who brag about it aren't nearly as rich as they claim, there honestly might not be much overlap between the rich people and the fast food people.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 16, 2021 8:21 PM |
R24, OP's post has no unneeded apostrophes. They're possessive apostrophes, all accurate.
As to the point, many DLers are fat lower-income trash and/or voluntary shills.
Others are interns named Heather working in cubicles to "spice up" their clients' social media presence.
Still others deliberately start contentious opinionated appraisals of shitty fast food for attention. It works.
All the food is so sodium-laced, there's no point in debating flavor. It's trash. They're trash. You're trash.
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 16, 2021 8:32 PM |
They're not all possessive, some are also contractions. All correct.

OP, Donald Trump was born with a silver spoon and loves fast food. Actually, everyone love fried food. I'm not ashamed to love fast food. I love myself more so I don't eat it more than 1 once every two weeks. it's delicious and addicting.
I love these old menus OP so thank you!
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 16, 2021 10:55 PM |
Some of you poor, old pensioners like R24 are pitiful and didn't pass 8th grade English, clearly. It's a wonder you can afford your Internet connection in the trailer park. "Unnecessary apostrophes" my ass, dickwad; I was an English major.
I come to DL for culture, pizazz, escapism, kitsch, and foodie tips. Not your Tik Tok review of the latest fast food chicken sammich (filmed in your filthy car in the parking lot of the joint, of course). As someone else above pointed out, these are hopefully plants from PR reps preying on lonely, old, gay men who--according to several of you--are too lazy to get out of your car in mid-July to fill your bellies with food.

Mussolini & Frank is a place I go to once every 10-15 years when I have a special out of town guest to entertain. Regarding Old Hollywood eateries, I vastly preferred the Pacific Dining Car. Sadly, it closed forever during the pandemic. There are few of this type of restaurants left. Tam O’Shanter is still open and is of similar quality and experience.
Fast food. I love the burgers at the Habit. But they don’t have drive thrus, so for the same reason I drive through Taco Bell occasionally, when I want a charbroiled burger, I go through Carl’s Jr. instead of getting Habit.

I enjoy some of these threads immensely. Though my neighbourhood has many authentic taquerias, our Taco Bell is open till the wee hours. It's only one of a handful that serves Margaritas and Beer. Quite posh actually for a Taco Bell.
I saw the Arby's thread, yet I haven't stumbled in there. I love their roast beef sandwiches, though admittedly haven't had them in years. I'm British though, and everyone knows we have questionable tastes when it comes to food.
This week I had Culver's for the first time, and I was blown away. Absolutely the best fast food burger I've ever eaten, and the fries were amazing. I had the custard with chocolate covered strawberries and almost died it was so good.
I view these places as a rare treat. Not everyone who eats fast food has one foot in the grave and diabetes.

The McDonald's on the Champs Elysee was full and had outdoor dining facing the Arc D'Triumph. And no, I didn't eat there because there is a local fast food called "Quick" a few doors down that I read has killer fries so I figured, after hours of walking, I would give them a shot. Very good. And even high-end George V nearby has their signature burger with their own sauce at 17 €. Tourist traps, but you can't fine dine 3× a day.

There are Taco Bell's on practically every corner where I live. They're cheap and convenient. Disclaimer, I'm one of the people that started a Taco Bell thread a couple weeks ago. Depending on your choices, you *could* eat relatively healthier there vs. other mainstream fast food joints.
There are times when a couple of their chicken soft tacos simply hits the spot. No giant fries to go with it, no sugary super sized sodas, no loads of cheese and sour cream, I keep bottled waters in my car. It's that simple and it's cheap.
| by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 19, 2021 7:30 PM |
R62 - most DL-ers had moms who were earlier Boomers or Silent Generation when it was normal for mother to do all the cooking. Nothing creepy. Still like that in a lot of homes too but things have changed. Also, a lot of DL-ers seem like good cooks and foodies so they will chime in on any thread regarding food.
