I happened to be on DL during the wee hours of the morning when Eric was appearing live on the adult site in Dec 2021

It was complicated for NY1.
They had a popular and well-liked team with Erick and the afternoon anchor, Ruschell Boone, who took an extended leave of absence last year due to pancreatic cancer (stage 4, I think), right after she took time off in late 2021 due to her Mother's death from Covid. They worked very well-together. He worked with numerous rotating hosts and did a great job.
Erick also did the morning weather with Pat Kiernan and had great rapport there as well.
Erick was (is) an audience favorite.
None of his charisma-challenged replacements have any real chemistry with the anchors. So I can see why NY1 did not find it easy to just drop him when the original news broke. I wish he could return.
