Millennial here just seeing these for the first time. Her voice was really versatile and she was good at interpreting songs/making them work for her. Her duets were a nice touch too
She was in her 40s during the 80s and it's fun now seeing that she could stay relevant.

Seeing her in concert on June 28th in Beverly, MA.

Dionne's voice was its most powerful, soulful, and controlled in the 70s and early 80s. I think she tried to develop her talent to its maximum potential, which isn't true of every singer. This clip shows how great she was, despite the song.

My high school drama class went to a recording of Solid Gold. We were hoping to see guest performers or even the Solid Gold dancers, but all we got was an hour and a half of Dionne doing her intros and singing take after take of Klymaxx's "I Miss You." We were so bored, we left before she was done with the song.

The thing is, Solid Gold was big then; there were no TV shows about pop music beyond variety shows like Sonny & Cher or Donny & Marie. MTV didn't exist yet, maybe that's what ended up relegating Solid Gold to syndication.
