Last night's "Dateline" was about the murder of Brad McGarry, an openly gay Ohio coal miner who friends called "larger than life." It's already on Peacock but won't be available to non-subscribers for another couple weeks. Here's the trailer.
I'm halfway through the episode and so far we've learned that he was a former hairdresser, had a younger lover with an airtight alibi (he was incarcerated), and friends admiringly called his home decor reminiscent of Cracker Barrel. There's a touching interview with his lesbian niece, who relied on him for emotional support when she was bullied as a teen. So far his supposedly straight best friend is the likeliest suspect.

Dennis Murphy doesn't come right out and say what R2 wrote, but that's the moral of the episode. In the end there's justice, and a friend laughs that Brad, in heaven, is probably happy to see himself on TV.

As an aside, not being from around these parts, the only thing I know about Cracker Barrel is that they had a don't hire a gay policy and there was a little bit of a backlash that made news enough for me to read about it, and from watching Youtube that have a you can park your "RV" around the back policy, the insides are a mystery to me!

The revelation here could be seen from a million miles away. Obviously his "straight" best friend killed him—didn't want his wife to know he'd been pumping loads into his gay best friend for years. It is wild that affairs can escalate to murder, but it happens all the time. It is a sad story for everyone involved. The only highlight is that Brad got to live out the gay male fantasy of getting plowed by your quasi-hetero best friend. Definitely not worth dying over.
