Cry For The Strangers - CBS Saturday Night Movie

Newly uploaded on-line. Made-for-tv horror film is packed with foreboding weirdness and ghoulish goulash. Based on a book by John Saul, it takes full advantage of his particular style of storytelling. The supernatural factor is off the charts, and the "unexplained" thunderstorms start about every two minutes!

CRY FOR THE STRANGERS opens with a grim, sepia-toned flashback sequence set in1937. Mysterious deaths occur -near a huge seaside house- that set up what is to come.

45 years later, in the same small town, Brad and Elaine Russell (Patrick Duffy and Cindy Pickett) move into the very same house from the opening. This doesn't seem to sit well with some folks, but other than that, all appears to be fine.

That is, until they witness the deadly outcome of what's said to be "another accident". The Russell's soon discover that whatever's going on has something to do with a local superstition.

The female lead, Cindy Pickett, who plays the wife of Patrick Duffy's character, played Jackie Marler-Spaulding on Guiding Light before this and later on in her career portrayed Ferris's mother in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Patrick Duffy is giving off James Brolin vibes. He looks good with a beard.

Another made for tv movie from that same time period originally shown on CBS was also uploaded with original commercials yesterday. Michael Leonard and John Houseman star in A Christmas Without Snow originally broadcast on December 9, 1980.

A divorced woman moves to San Francisco from Omaha after her divorce. She joins the choir of a local church and is inspired by the choirmaster, a curmudgeonly old gentleman who will accept nothing but perfection from his group. As Christmas approaches and the choir practices for a performance of Handel's "Messiah', issues of racism and ageism, accusations against a young choir member, and the director's health issue threaten to undermine the performance.
