He's straight and has been giving the CNN international audience his own personal experience of what it's like to be a black man in the US. Said people generally act a certain way until he speaks. Also said having a black president hasn't seemed to have improved race relations in America.
I watch CNN international all the time and find him, bland, generic and boring which is why the quotes above stood out so much because he always seemed to steer away from controversial subjects. Before this gig he'd been their man in Africa for a magazine show on life I'm the continent. Seems very awkward doing the news.
