"Christmas in July" (1940) directed by Preston Sturges

Starring Dick Powell and Ellen Drew, it follows a man who is tricked into believing he has won the $25,000 prize of a slogan contest for a coffee company. While Sturges's films have gotten a lot of reevaluation over the years, this one—his second directorial effort after "The Great McGinty"—doesn't seem to get discussed much. At 67 minutes, it's a brisk, frenetic, and funny watch.

I like this movie. I watch it every Christmas (even though it's not really a Christmas movie). Young Dick Powell was a cutie.

If ya can't sleep at night, it isn't the coffee, it's the bunk!

Ellen Drew and Dick Powell both looked fantastic in this film.
