NO SUPRISE. Often when casting a female child, casting directors want to make sure the (stupid) audience is not distracted by even the tiniest bit of stereotypically adult/feminine sexiness, so they pick a girl with "tomboy" qualities. Jodie Foster, Dana Hill, so many others - including Chloe - had a boyish quality about them. In addition, it's considered a positive in today's society for girls to be "tomboys", be into sports, etc. Good role model, etc. Many, (obviously not all) lesbians exhibited tomboy qualities as children, hence NO SURPRISE.

She's a straight girl and that kiss is the most staged thing ever. It doesn't even remotely look like a kiss a real couple would give on the street, it looks like what it is - some horseplaying for attention that straight girls have been doing since the 80s.
