Bill Maher is going to have Carrot Top as a guest every week now. While Maher has almost a decade on him, Carrot Top is that rarest of guest who makes him look almost youthful and lifelike.

Damn, I'm 70 and even my skin isn't crepeing like his (look at the inside of his elbow). He looks like he dyes his eyebrows, and wears a ton of eyeliner, and then there's that fright hair or wig or whatever that thing is on his head. Clearly he's intentionally making himself look as freaky as possible.

Maybe he isn’t photogenic but looks better in person. On video he looks a lot nicer. I think he is allegedly a really nice fellow. He might also be loaded from the popularity of his performances. I saw him on a celebrity roast once, and he was actually very funny.

I saw him in Vegas last year, and - to my surprise, I have to admit - his act is hilarious. He’s so funny, and yes, the rumor is he’s a very nice guy. Still, at some point in his act he walked into the audience, and when he got right in front of us, we all let out an audible gasp. The distance softens him.

Carrot Top isn't that bad compared to modern "comedians". At least he puts on a show and I like the lack of self importance in doing a bunch of sight gags. Comes off like a really chill guy actually, if he wasn't so hard to look at he seems like a great hang.

Carrot Top is a clown. Intentionally. Consistently. He's built a career around it. And he's aging, and a committed clown who reveals his face while maintaining his clown face both looks this way and gets points for the enactment of his vision.

And I'm not a fan of the genre. But I see where it connects in the business and the art of show, and I respect him. As I also often cringe. After all, that's the point.
