Can the Law & Order shows be saved?

Is anybody still watching?

Oof, I watched an episode of SVU last week for the first time in 5 or 6 years and it was HORRIBLE.

However, the latest hot detectives are actually HOT.

This thread is especially heinous.

What other entity can employ every struggling NY actor once?

by Anonymousreply 3January 25, 2024 2:20 PM

Hasn't every woman in NYC been raped by now, Olivia?

Order is completely overshadowed in this series. Why is there always murder but no tidying?

by Anonymousreply 6January 25, 2024 2:58 PM

I stopped watching SVU because of all the crossovers with Organized Crime. I don't want to watch a show and then have to watch a different show for the conclusion of the story.

SVU was great when it was episodic with only small glimpses of the main characters’ private lives.

It seems like it’s a ridiculous soap opera now.

Tried the reboot. Too formulaic.

And hardly any alphabetizing!

Please dear god, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

They replaced the other detective in L&O. They need to replace Camryn Mannheim.

Right?

I have never liked Mariska Hargitay or the SVU version of L&O. Meloni is OK, but all Hargitay, all the time - I stopped watching long ago.

The fact that it survived over the Mother Ship or Criminal Intent is just plain wrong.

The early and middle seasons of L&O were great with the newer actors fitting into the show very well.

As for Criminal Intent, the cast with D'Onofrio, Erbe, Sheridan and Vance was the best of this L&O show. Add in the occasional appearances of Olivia d'Abo as Goren's nemesis Nicole Wallace (I just saw a rerun this week of her first appearance as this week) and it was a fine show. Ending the show with the arc containing Julia Ormond playing Goren's therapist. Goldblum, who I usually like was annoying here, although Noth reprising his character was good, but he seemed out of place.

Currently being rerun on OTA ChargeTV. 4 episodes per night starting 8PM CST.

I watched the original L&O for years, through its ups and downs, still enjoy many episodes in rerun. When the reboot was announced, I stayed. The city has changed, the world has too, writers just can’t do good NYC-centric episodes.

I have never enjoyed the rape/sexual abuse of SVU. Having Cragen in the squad couldn’t get me to watch.

And Organized Crime with Meloni? Y A W N. He’s morphed into an unattractive man.

End all of them please.

I like the scruffy looking guy with the pretty eyes (Kevin Kane)

Like every other cop drama, the series has resorted to using background music for every scene. You have dialogue? Let's write music, since the dialogue is so bad it needs the help of unnecessary, distracting music.

by Anonymousreply 17January 27, 2024 1:02 AM

Seriously, r16. Why isn't Kevin Kane in the opening credits?

by Anonymousreply 18January 27, 2024 1:39 AM

NBC itself is in big trouble. It’s going to start pushing more shows to Peacock and there go the affiliates. Gray owned stations almost went independent earlier this month.

The Law and Order shows cost a pretty penny to make. Mariska Hargitay makes a ton of money but she’s not a draw anymore. The network itself really isn’t promoting these shows, save for season premieres.

Exercise in futility. Olivia and Elliot should be retired. Let them screw and ride off into the sunset and that’s that.

Kill them all and concentrate on the (now resurrected?) Mother Ship following closely on its model.

R16 He frequently writes with Amy Schumer and was on "Inside with Amy Schumer" several times. He was/is mouthwatering. He's also in "Life with Beth" on Hulu.

They should bring back Olivia d’Abo for “Law & Order: Elizabeth Hitchens”,

R4, certainly everyone at Hudson University has been killed or jailed. It is like Cabot Cove.
