[QUOTE]President Obama, a graduate of Harvard Law School, stepped in as Gay faced calls for her resignation. The push to oust Gay ultimately failed, as the school signaled its intent to keep her on as president.

I don’t think it’s about “black solidarity.” I think the former President just did what was right.

R2, it’s not right, it just reveals how corrupt the top elite institutions are.

Well the elites owe him one, haven’t he saved their banks with billions of tax dollars and he lead seven wars and bombed Middle east to oblivion for the benefit of military-industrial complex. Netanyahu is a little baby to the damage his administration committed in Middle eastern countries, from Iraq to Syria.
A bit of plagiarism from an incompetent AA academic wannabe is not such a big deal when you remember his deeds.

I don’t understand why what Harvard does or who they have leading them is the business of anyone other than people who have or currently are studying there.
A public university, funded by a state? Sure! Private colleges are a different animal. I don’t care who Hilldale College or Bob Jones University or Liberty University have running them because I neither went to them nor fund them directly.
Sure these schools receive Pell grant monies but those monies really go to the students who use them at their college of choice. If students can use their federal grants at conservative universities then it’s only fair play that they are allowed to use them at liberal ones. Honestly, the only qualification should be that the universities have to be accredited, which is in fact the case.

Harvard is one of top if not the top university in the country. It educates our elites. It is not Bob Jones University or University of Phoenix.
| by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 23, 2023 6:04 PM |
But even if you are a private university would it not be against the law to have the head who is proven to be plagiarist?

Just because they didn’t fire her doesn’t mean she should stay. Her reputation is ruined and people will continue to ridicule her. Isn’t she embarrassed? If I were her I’d crawl into a hole somewhere and hide.

R12, what kind of law would that be? What about laws about college presidents who pay pool boys to fuck their wives while they watch?
Honestly, if those type of laws were to be enacted it would be better to start with CEOs because at least you could claim consumer protection for people investing their life savings.

What do I know, the low that guarantees that the person who teaches students has bona fide credentials for. eg.
Like the low that assures that the doctor that does the surgery on you has passed all required exams and not bought them on black market.

R16, I’m not familiar with the plagiarism claims against this person. Which degree that qualifies her to head a large university did she claim to have that she didn’t actually receive?
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 23, 2023 6:40 PM |
Obama doesn’t need to worry about what people think anymore. He’s been in one of the highest offices on Earth. He and Michelle made great and honest money after leaving the WH. He doesn’t owe anyone shit.
Call him a war criminal or whatever, he’s fine.

The Messenger story is taken from The Jewish Insider, which came up with this finding: "Overwhelming majority of American Jews support Israel’s fight against Hamas, poll finds."

I don't have a problem with her staying despite the anti-semitism allegations. Frankly, a lot of the allegations being made against a variety of people are questionable.
What I DO have a HUGE problem with is that she lacks academic integrity. Plagarism in academics is a huge deal. Also, plagarism is a strong indicator of lack of character and someone who seeks short cuts and is willing to lie. It's also just sheer laziness.
You cannot have a university president who calls for academic rigor, but failed miserably to live the standards she espouses. Hypocrisy makes you a poor leader.

There is no plagiarism scandal, R33. It’s all bullshit. But if there were a scandal, the answer is yes: Barack could save her from that, too.
