Amy Goodman, journalist and host of Democracy Now!

What does anyone think of Amy Goodman from Democracy Now? She seems to be a respectable journalist who has done a lot in her career including being a host of Democracy Now! for twenty years. Anyone else watch the show or like Amy Goodman?

She's damn good at what she does. Sparkly TV personality she is not. Production values overall can be clunky as hell, but the news summary is quite solid. Mix of world headlines and "people-driven" news (women's rights, gay rights, labor rights, etc.)

by Anonymousreply 1June 6, 2016 10:33 PM

She gets a little flat affect in her voice. And she might want to something with her hair. If she has a dynamite shape you'd never know.

I like and respect Amy Goodman, and the respect is a rare thing for a modern-day journalist.

I've seen her a few times in person and she's quite interesting.

R2, she doesn't care what you think about her looks. If that's what you think is important, you should stick with Fox News.

I like her. She is good, man.

She's too old for the vocal fry.

by Anonymousreply 7June 6, 2016 11:30 PM

It's not vocal fry, although it's popular to lump all voice issues into the category of "vocal fry." She's had trouble with her voice for years, and it seems to be centered in her vocal cords. At times she has to repeatedly clear her throat before she can speak, and she has recurrent bouts of laryngitis. She's probably constantly straining her voice by not using it properly.

Amy Goodman is controlled opposition.

Willingly, as a good Jewess who loves her Tribe.

The kind of Jewish nationalist who prefers the capital of the Jewish empire not be in Israel.

Patting herself on the back for her "prophetic" "universalism" while remaining true to her ethnocentric culture.

by Anonymousreply 15June 7, 2016 8:15 PM

She is a Jewess but married out of her tribe. I don't think she is pro-Israel is she? So Herr Hitler universal-ism is a Jewish value or entno-centrism? You stupid wiggers can't make up your fucking mind as to which!

"What does anyone think of Amy Goodman"

Outside lesbian coffee houses and People's Co-ops, the reality is nobody thinks of her at all, except the people who owe her money. Interesting story of how she bled Pacifica Radio dry.

""Within a few months, Democracy Now! was privatized. In what may have been a reward for Goodman's support of the revolution, she was handed complete ownership of the show. For free. In fact, they paid her to take it, handing Goodman a contract worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year — and gave her an automatic 4 percent raise every year, regardless of the size of her listenership or the money she raised.

According to former board member Tracy Rosenberg, Goodman now gets fees of around $650,000 for the right to air her show and for her fundraising services. Rosenberg says: "When you go to business school, they tell you that's how not to sign a contract."

Today, Pacifica's debts amount to roughly $3 million; $2 million of that is owed to Democracy Now!, which is also the name of an independent nonprofit run by Goodman.

"Honestly, I get where she's coming from," says Uprising host Sonali Kolhatkar. "Every journalist fantasizes about having their own media institution, and she pulled it off." She adds that Goodman "fundraises tirelessly for Pacifica, for all five stations — sometimes simultaneously — on top of doing her own show. I have great admiration for her."

Today, Democracy Now! is a worldwide brand; it has far more listeners via podcasting and syndication than Pacifica itself, which no longer produces any regular national programming.""

That was written two years ago. I enjoy rich socialists.

She's great. She reports and informs. She does what journalists are supposed to do. She's not supposed to be an entertainer. It's a shame there are not more people like her in the media and then maybe it wouldn't be the unreliable shit show it has become.
