The Georgia man is currently living of his savings. The Canadian adoptive parents of one of his biological offspring contacted him to say thank you and that helped create his desire to track them all down. He originally became a sperm donor to fund legal bills different media reports say.
That situation was clearly difficult for Stone-Miller who admitted: "It was hard to look my biological daughter in the eye and tell her I wasn’t her dad."
Actually, you are. That’s why you have a burning desire to track down all your children.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 2, 2023 10:22 AM |
Bowes, who has allowed Stone-Miller to visit twice in the past year, has since revealed: "There are moments when it feels intrusive with Dylan.
"It’s about us figuring out what boundaries are, as well as him figuring out his boundaries."
Talking about her daughter, she added: "I don’t want Harper to feel like she can call him anything.
"He is not her dad. Period. If she were to say that in front of us, we would straight up say, 'Dylan is not your dad. He will never be your dad. [bold]You don’t have a dad. You have a donor'."[/bold]
This seems like an unnecessarily hostile (and confusing) way to broach the subject with one's child. Even adoptive parents wouldn't go so far as to tell their kids "You don't have biological parents. You have donors." Every mammalian species on this planet has both a mother and a father. That's just nature. Tell the child the truth. She sounds insecure af.
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 2, 2023 10:37 AM |
Depends on the age of the child and how much nuance it can understand. An older child could be told, so-and-so is your biological father, but, as you know, "daddy" is the one who has always been in your life and has raised you with love. That's too complicated for a very young child to understand. I would probably tell a younger child "that man helped your dad and I to have YOU".

When the girl grows up, she may see things differently. Given her mother's/mothers' approach, I wouldn't be surprised.
They're a lesbian couple. There is no other father except him.
That doesn't change R6's point that there's a wide gulf between donor and a dad. Parents choose sperm banks for a reason. If they wanted the donor to be intimately involved in their lives, they could've easily taken another path.
This quote from one of the moms was interesting. The family chose to let him into their lives, but just as the donor admits this was far more emotional to him than he anticipated, it's also much trickier than the moms imagined:
"As we get to know him more, we all feel more comfortable. But my sense is he is going to feel more entitled, which can be problematic. We need to keep enough walls up to protect our girls and our family, but to make them permeable enough that he can come in."
Reading the article in full, it's easy to see where they're coming from. This became a big part of his identity quickly and shows that it's not just sperm bank customers but also donors who need to seriously evaluate if they're emotionally cut out for this.
I'd make a "The Kids Are Alright" joke, but he has gayface despite the ex-wife.

Why are children being subjected to the whims of this selfish person? Let the kids decide for themselves when they are much older if they want to communicate or meet with him.
I wonder how he’d feel if the parents came after him for child support?

| by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 2, 2023 6:09 PM |
r21 His original plan to leave it up to the kids when they were 18 was the better plan.
| by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 2, 2023 6:09 PM |
R6, I agree if the child has an adoptive father, but that doesn’t match with the mother’s comment, “you don’t have a father.” I don’t know if she is a lesbian or a single mother (or both), but there is apparently no man whom the daughter is allowed to identify as her father.
How any loving mother could say to her child "you don't have a father; you have a donor" is a mystery. It's a harsh, cruel and punitive thing to say.
I have mixed feelings about this guy’s behavior, which strikes me as self-indulgent and potentially overreaching (there’s no way he’s going to be able to give all those kids a real relationship), but denying the reality of biology and denying her daughter the chance to have a supportive, caring male in her life seems insecure and hostile.
I could understand keeping him away entirely, but it's cruel to everyone concerned to let him into the child's life and then say to your child, in effect, "you can like your donor, but only so much."
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 2, 2023 6:51 PM |
The only requirement to be listed as the father on a birth certificate is to say you’re the father and for the woman to confirm it. Imagine how many non-biological fathers are currently on birth certificates and don’t even know that the child isn’t theirs.
| by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 2, 2023 8:48 PM |
Imagine how many people are unknowingly fucking their half-siblings and other unknown relatives.
R26, one of the most fucked up people i know is a guy whose mother raised him alone without telling him anything about his bio father. She's a nasty thing and a shitty person in many ways, but denying him knowing anything about half his background helped make him into the hugely dysfunctional person he is today.
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 3, 2023 5:46 AM |
r26 I just think the entire fertility industry is twisted. If you're in a position where you're infertile or in a relationship that can't naturally produce offspring, you're just not meant to have biological children and need to accept that. Anonymous sperm and egg donation is too messy to me and only the truly selfish and mildly narcissistic choose it as an option to create a child who will, essentially, only know half of their identity.
That might explain the mother's attitude, here (she's a controlling narcissist). If you're that desperate for a kid, at least ensure the donor parent is known to the child. Blended families aren't exactly a new concept (see: step-parents). But, of course, people who use fertility services to conceive are rarely thinking about the kids involved. It's all about them and what they want.
What happens when a mother gives birth to a child that ends up looking nothing like her? This happens frequently when kids are basically clones of their fathers (e.g. Prince George who has William's whole face). To assume that that child won't grow up and start wondering who they look like is just naive. And in an age of genealogy websites like 23andMe that allow the average citizen to submit their DNA and find relatives, it renders the concept of anonymous sperm and egg donation completely moot. The tools to find biological parents are more accessible, now. Why bother hiding this information from the child? The anonymous component of sperm and egg donation is dubious and problematic, to me.

You don't need to just accept infertility, this is a cruel remark. But reading between the lines, many involved in this industry are grifter types who do not deserve to have a child.
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 3, 2023 7:48 PM |
r30 People accept far worse realities regarding their health, many of which can be potentially fatal (i.e. cancer). Unless the infertility is caused by another ailment, it isn't, itself, a death sentence.
Also, biology isn't required for one to be a parent. There is adoption. These people usually don't want to adopt because anything less than their own DNA is not worthy of their attention or love. Adding more people to a dying planet is more important to them than just raising a child. That's what is cruel.
| by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 3, 2023 7:55 PM |
You can't force people to share your values. Not everyone is intended to be a parent or adopt. I do believe most of us overvalue our genetic code including the subject of the thread who sounds like a terrible person.
| by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 3, 2023 7:58 PM |
These aren't his kids, they are his offspring. If he wanted to do something positive for his offspring, he would continue to work and leave them each a settlement. Even ten grand is something they could each use as seed money to get through college.
He is too proud to be a sperm provider and those women also have poor judgment to allow a sperm donor to interfere with their kids personal lives.
| by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 3, 2023 8:05 PM |
r32 It isn't my intention or expectation for others to share my values. I'm merely stating my opinion on this topic. Personally, on some level even when I was a kid myself, I always knew that I would never be a mother. This was long before I even knew what gay was, something in me just knew that life wasn't for me and I never really wanted it. No shade to other lesbians who go the sperm bank route, I just personally could never morally reconcile creating a child who would never know their father. I don't want that on my conscience. Others obviously feel differently, and that's fine.
That said, everyone involved in the subject of the thread sucks, here. He sounds like a narcissist, too.

r37 That's what would eat me up; guilt. Especially since I was raised without my father in the home and it bothered me immensely once I started school and began comparing my life to my peers. For me to purposely create a fatherless child would make me a massive hypocrite. At least my mom has the "You were an accident" excuse (even though she should've been responsible and aborted me). What would be my excuse?
[R38], so these moms saying to their child, “You were wanted” is less acceptable to “I was a whore and you were a mistake” as your mother said to you?
First of all r52, my mother isn't a whore. Argue with your own mom about the issues you clearly have with that subject matter. Accidental/unplanned pregnancies happen in the confines of monogamous hetero relationships all the damn time. Frankly, I'd rather be told "You weren't planned, but we did what we had to do to make sure you were loved and cared for regardless" than "We planned to bring you into this world never knowing who your father is." One scenario shows a willingness to step up and do what needs to be done to take care of the life you created in spite of your circumstances, the other shows pure narcissism.
Second of all, "You were wanted" is not a good enough excuse because it absolutely denotes selfishness on the parent(s)' end as at no point does the thought of what the child may want come into the minds of people who think like this. They just wanted a kid by any means necessary. Long-term consequences for the child be damned.
If anyone has "issues" it is you, sir, considering your preferred tactic whenever you run into a disagreement with the opinions of posters on here is to spew with brainless ad hominems when you have nothing substantial or thought-provoking to offer to a discussion (which is quite often).
