Aaron Paul's Hulu Original "The Path"

Aaron Paul is a conflicted follower of a cult in upstate NY. It's very Scientology-like. I'm not totally invested. I'm only on episode 3. I will watch through the end of the season, but does it get better? Who is watching?

The new season premieres on the 25th.

It really picks up midway into the season. Ep 5, The Hole, starts to set things in place, and there is notable smoldering between Paul and co-star Hugh Dancy. I thought it started off shaky, but by the end I was really intrigued by the characters and where they might be going next. There is a bit of a supernatural mystery to it, in that they seem to flirt with the idea of that this religion might not be complete bullshit, but I expect that they are going to keep that in the air.

Looking forward to the new season in a few days. Mostly because I just want Aaron Paul back on my television screen every week.

There was another thread for it during season one if you're interested

Thanks! I did a search and nothing came up. I just knew that one had to be out there.

Mousey faced people have certain predilections that can't be understood by people with normal features.

by Anonymousreply 4January 23, 2017 5:12 AM

Boring. Aaron Paul is a good actor but not enough charisma to carry his own show.

I loved The Path. Mostly because of Aaron Paul and Hugh Dancy, because they make their characters so interesting, I like the kid who plays Hawk, too. It takes awhile to get moving but the last half of the season stepped up.

I've been impressed with Michelle Monaghan. A really talented actress and an underrated beauty. She has also grown on me looks wise. That scene she had with the greasy haired white ethnic guy at the party was hot.I would make love to her for three days.

Mink Kelly is a very gorgeous girl BUT who did she blow to get her job on the show? She was OK at best and much better women could have played Miranda instead.

by Anonymousreply 7January 26, 2017 3:22 PM

I would smoulder if I got the chance to stand next to Hugh Dancy.

Hugh Dancy looks great but is so creepy in this role. He looks better with facial hair. Did he fuck Minka Kelly on set? Or the guy who plays Hawk? He is sexually versatile so nothing would shock me.

by Anonymousreply 9January 26, 2017 5:44 PM

Minka Kelly is an awful actress. I had never seen her in anything, but I knew of her. Now I see why she doesn't get better roles.

I'm on season 1, episode 9. I am all in now. Hugh Dancy plays this role with so much complexity. I love his screen presence.

Michelle Monaghan is also great, but what is it with these dramas that make the wife so unlikeable? What a fucking hypocrite. I felt this on Dexter, Breaking Bad, Big Love, and others.

Proof that Hugh Dancy is "sexually versatile," R9?

Cal is a big time hypocrite just like Sarah is. That sets Eddie up as the Messiah with the visions. Eddie will be the leader in the end whereas Cal will be in prison or end up in a ditch because of his ruthlessness.

by Anonymousreply 12January 26, 2017 7:38 PM

Minka is "Fuck your way to the top" personified. Starting with (but far from ending with) Taylor Kitsch on "FNL". And indeed a truly awful actor or it wouldn't matter how she got there.

Aaron Paul has the most beautiful back. I could stare at it for days - those freckles are works of art. Really digging the scar tissue left over from what can only be a lightning strike on that mountain. I like that the pattern looks like a tree - very symbolic.

Cal is losing his shit. I agree that Michelle Monoghan is quite a stunner. Her ass is incredible and looks amazing in those bell bottom jeans. No wonder Eddie is so sad to see her go.

Just started watching and very Scientology-ish even down to the cell rundown and little gadgets.

Aaron Paul is fucking awful this season. Really amateur hour.

I like Leven Rambin even though her name sounds like some other name mispronounced.

I don't like the actress playing Hawk's new love interest.

Monaghan is great.

I think Paul is doing the best with what he's been given, which isn't a lot. The writing and direction can be so melodramatic, its hard to spout those lines and sound credible. I think Monaghan is great, too, and she's had some meaty material to work with, but I hate what they are doing to her character.

The latest Cal 'reveal' was terrible. It feels like something the writers pulled out of their ass just to make this character sympathetic.

Is the season only 8 episodes?

by Anonymousreply 18March 12, 2017 7:47 AM

Monaghan is a poor man's Ruth Wilson, for sure. She's a far less interesting actress than Wilson and certainly nowhere near as distinctive and accomplished.

Paul gives a good performance but this show doesn't deserve a third season.

by Anonymousreply 19March 18, 2017 9:01 PM

r19 = Ruth "No Upper Teeth" Wilson's Mom

by Anonymousreply 20March 18, 2017 10:34 PM

I lost it at that one, R20. I think Monaghan is fantastic. Her character is horrible, but more interesting than fucking Alison by a long shot.

by Anonymousreply 22March 19, 2017 3:16 AM

That scene in that last episode with the audience nodding in approval of Cal/Sarah's laughably simplistic "speech" was absolutely cringeworthy.

I have to fast-forward through every scene that elder with the disability is in-he is amateurish in every way. James Remar is still kind of hot looking, though.

What about this charge from Cal's mother that their exalted leader touched Cal funny? Are we thinking Meyer was just a pedo? Or did Kathleen Turner's character misconstrue some strange ritual? Perhaps Steve was showing little Cal how to tug one out to prepare him for a life of loneliness as the Chosen One.

Considering Steve's complete bafflement when Eddie shows up as the Guy, it would be interesting if this "Light" that Meyer was supposedly touched by is really something much more sinister and is fucking with these people. It appears to Eddie in the guise of a snake, after all.

by Anonymousreply 24March 28, 2017 12:52 PM

R24 That could be an interesting twist. That all of this is completely evil and Eddie shows up to save them.

Is anyone watching this show? It's too bad, really. I wish the writing was stronger - I really think the showrunner sucks - but there are glimmers from episode to episode that suggest this show could be really compelling if they had a clue about structure. The actors' performances are really their ace in the deck.

This latest ep with Richard's sendoff was a great example of how damaging that break from organized mindthink can be to an individual. I felt bad for Richard seeing how productive and nourishing his old lover's life had become without him and the stultifying effect of religious dogma. Jeremiah was the person he called toxic a few episodes ago. It's a hard thing to learn your life was an utter waste.

Anyone watch this most recent season? The son turned out to be gay!

by Anonymousreply 27March 30, 2018 5:32 PM

Am catching up now, R27. Just saw his first gay kiss.
